To the people who might have been confused by the end or think there's plot inconsistencies, while I won't go into any theories specifically or deny any criticism you might have. I do think it's important to understand several parallels drawn by David Lynch and where he took inspiration from to truly get what he was going for (or was trying to go for). I'm not going to explain any theory in and of itself, but I will try to lay a general line of thinking out on the table.

There's a clear inspiration taken by Lynch from a certain genre of anime, in particular the likes of Angel Beats (2010) and Charlotte (2015). Both heavily criticized for doing the exact same thing Twin Peaks did but it really does all fit together well if you're of an high IQ enough to understand and appreciate this type of story. I know this might come of as unbelievable but there's many similarities here and if you want a less complex version that might help you understand the Season 3 Finale of Twin Peaks I think it's best to have seen the aforementioned shows.
They might be a little rough, and things might seem odd. But that's exactly why it compares so well to Twin Peaks. You can see, going from the first to the second show the time that has passed in real time reflects within the show itself. AB (?) C (?). It's a rollercoaster ride much like Twin Peaks was (is? season 4?) and will likely help you answer many of the problems you might have had with the ending of the third season of Twin Peaks. They're diamonds in the rough. They're the crude oil running through the veins of our inner sanctum. But at the end of the day you can better understand Lynch as a person, a creator, and, most importantly, a human. What his eyes saw and what he tried to reflect. Through the works so brilliantly parodied by him that go beyond a subconscious mind.

If you've got 10 hours of free time, and want to understand Twin Peaks on a much higher plane, consume these 2 shows. Thank me later.

true. imho i think lynch was just doing this as a favor to everyone from the original series, i mean, the majority of the cast, haven't really worked in a long time / didn't do many things of note after twin peaks. he brought back so many people even if it was for just a single scene with a line or not even a line, but they got paid.

Perhaps I'm wondering why Cooper would bother creating another Dougie to make Janey-E happy if he was going to destroy that reality anyway.

This. Audrey had literally no purpose in this story other than the relationship with Billy but thats more of a red herring. The fans wanted her though and Lynch is good friends with her so it wouldnt be right to cuck her out of her one chance back in the spotlight.
The good news is with season four Little Mike still has a chance to come back as MANFAP

Reminder that Dougie shows up at Janey-E and Sonny Jim's house after Coop's time-fuckery which means that timeline still exists in some capacity. Audrey's point in the story was a microcosm of what the ending was - it was a dream of the "girl who lived down the lane". She was in a dreamworld. The ending is Coop in Laura's dreamworld in 1989.
>>
>>87291520
pretty sure 2 things happened: they were convinced the show would have a bigger appeal than it really did (the resurgence of the show's popularity when it got on netflix), so they banked on that, then when lynch was going to walk away when they only gave him a 9 episode budget (which in hindsight would've been enough), when talks reengaged, lynch probably rused them into signing some contract that prevented them from backing out even though lynch and fristy only probably gave them a vague plot summary and they said 'fuck it, it will probably be good', then when they got the final scripts they were contractually obliged to put up with it.

Everytime a white horse appears, something really fucked is about to happen. Remember when Leland drugs Sarah and then rapes Laura in FWWM? While she is drugged out there is a white horse in her room. A white horse also appears in the first few episodes (I think the first) of Season 3. Also, you can't forget the eighth episode "The horse is the white of the eyes, and dark within," and the sound of a horse as the credits start rolling.

Cooper let his emotions and good intentions blind him and make him selfish, he tries to do the right thing, it comes back and fucks him and everyone else over in spectacular ways. Only difference is now he's not going to be at peace and he's dragged Laura into this mess.

Cooper created a world where every meaningful relationship he's ever had has been erased from existence and he's entirely to blame for it.

He goes to the lodge.
Phillip Jeffires creates a time-portal from the lodge back to February 23rd, 1989.
Cooper leaved the lodge and re-enters the real world in Twin Peaks in 1989.
He saves Laura from being murdered, takes her back to the black lodge but loses her at the entrance.
Coop re-enters black lodge. Saves diane.
Leaves lodge again with Diane.
Enters the new version of the real world he created by saving Laura.
Finds out he didn't just change the timeline by saving her but changed all of reality and everyone existing into someone else.

So it's basically;

He was referring to the doppelganger that shows up later that episode. Which makes no sense since FWWM and S3 establish that he's MIKE's Arm. Why would he have a doppelganger? I'd say it's pretty clear that Lynch and Frost originally planned on the dwarf being much more important to the overall lore, like how the Fireman, Judy, Laura, and BOB ended up in S3.

He literally saved everyone except himself. In a way he even saved himself with his Tulpa/clone and it's probably still possible for him to fix/escape the alternate timeline/dimension, even if we never see it. A version of Dale is living happily ever after with Janey-E. Audrey, Briggs, Leland, Sarah, etc are all saved because of him.

I'm fully convinced people are telling themselves this was great because they want it to be. Where is the brilliance of this show besides KM? I just felt bitter and had to finish it off because I had already sunk so much time watching it this summer. When the show was being twin peaks it was a lot of weird creepy fun but so many parts were unnecessarily long winded and just dragged on forever. So much of this show could of been cut because it was just filler. I didn't expect everything to be tied up in a nice little bow tie but I wasn't expecting a big F U either. It was entirely unsatisfying and I'm just pissed I wasted so much time and money on this. If they just ended it with episode 17 I would of been slightly ok with it but fuck episode 18.

Cooper seemed to know to drive 430 miles from the very vague '430' from the Fireman. He and real Diane also knew something weird would happen driving forward after 430 miles.

No clue. This is all speculation but I imagine he kept her alive originally just in case he needed more material for Diane tulpas, then by the time he realized stuff was starting to unravel and she was in the real world again, he had to kill her to tie up loose ends.

>Where was Cooper and Diane headed before they warped into the "new dimension"?
Again, just a guess, but maybe he expected for her to stay with him all the way through. Keep in mind that this woman is, next to Laura, the most important person in his life, and he hasn't seen her in decades.

No I think it is. Why would Janey-E be ecstatic to see dougie again and why would there be a need to recreate dougie or why even have dougie at all anymore since the events of Twin Peaks never happened so therefore Dougie never existed. Yet they chose to have a scene with Dougie reuniting with Janey-E. This tells me nothing actually changed in the "real" world and that Cooper is in an entirely separate reality. What's more is that entire sequence is structured exactly like a dream. One scene doesn't always follow from the next and when it does it still doesn't make sense like when Cooper wakes up in the wrong hotel.

The Fireman created Laura to deal with the problem Judy was creating on Earth. Cooper and Diane understood the consequences of what they were about to attempt and had the help of Mike and Philip Jeffiries to that end.

After Cooper saved Laura and her corpse disappeared, Judy/Sarah was moaning in agony. pissed off and tried to destroy Laura's portrait with no success. Judy created the alternate reality to trap Laura.

Laura is pivotal in The Fireman's plan in dealing with Judy.

When Gordon Cole revealed his knowledge of a tremendous evil hiding in Twin Peaks, "Judy", the formal name he used was jiāo dài

The formal name of most elusive antagonist of the season, perhaps the whole series, is "conclusion". By the 10th minute of episode 17, David Lynch's own character was telling the audience to go fuck itself in no uncertain terms.

We're not going to talk about jiaodai. Ever.

>goes with MIKE to see Jeffries in the motel
>Jeffries shows cooper 8, and then says that Gordon will remember the "unofficial" version
>he goes into the past and saves Laura, but the gramophone record skipping noise starts, the same one in the very first scene where the fireman tells coop "IT (judy) is in our house now; 430. Remember Richard and Linda." Laura disappears. The best guess is that she is in the White Lodge, and Judy senses that and is enraged that she can't destroy Laura.

My best guess here is that Sarah was not possessed by Judy until Judy came through this world through the Glass Box. Which would mean that in 1989, Laura still exists. Her death does not happen. And Judy is not possessing Sarah.

The ending is a dream of Laura's. Coop, the man from her dreams, known as Richard in this world, is trying to wake her from this dream; that's why there's all this weird shit happening that makes no sense. The white horses are again a symbol of unconsciousness in the TP universe. Laura knows the Chalfonts/Tremonds from her meals on wheels deliveries. There's also the pole from the intersection. She wakes up when her mom calls her name. And her mother is not possessed at this point. The fireman meant for this to happen.

Idk I'm still kind of muddied on certain parts but I think this explains a lot of shit. Dougie also returns to Janey-E and Sonny Jim after the time shit so that means that timeline's still intact, but Cooper does not exist there anymore. He went to the very end to wake Laura from her dream, and to put her in a different reality where Judy isn't. We've had many instances of characters remembering different versions of events this season so I'm still thinking about how those correlate.
>>
>>87292445

Mr. C was looking for Mother/Judy. At the same time, Mother/Judy was looking for BOB, who was with Mr. C. ("I missed you in New York.")

The Fireman & Briggs were able to trap Mr. C and send him to where they wanted him. Every character following a destiny ended up at the Sheriff's Department.

that doesn't quite add up since the conversation they had was not particularly friendly.

also if Mr C wanted to meet Mother, why not just hop on into the black lodge and do some magic mumbo jumbo from there.
And if Mother already manifested in NY, why not wait for her there then

I think Mr C's only agenda was to find a way to shut the real Coop down so he can stay in the real world forever.

But even then some things are bizarre.
Why have that guy (Ray?) wear the ring to transport him to the lodge upon death. It made it seem like he was paying MIKE off with Ray's body/spirit, but why?

I think its best to watch all of it. FWWM really isnt as good with the hours of footage cut, and watching TMP by itself wont give you the same experience as a cohesive film. TMP also has multiple takes of scenes while q2 edit settles for one.

>it's the same world but different because he altered the timeline
Nope.
>it's the past
Nope. (retarded)
>he woke up to the "real" world etc
Nope.
>Coop traveled to a different world
Yes. It's been set up the entire show.

It's fucking baffling to me that people have problems understanding this. Like I'm not even trolling, it's crazy that people are having this much difficulty with it.

It's honestly a pretty bad way of handling a multiverse/timeline story at that. Anime did it better. And that's saying a lot.

Every day for ten years is almost 4000 times. And he had almost twice that amount of time.

It wasn't friendly. BOB's nature was as a familiar, previously bound to Mike. Now BOB was bound to Mr. C. Judy's wanting to "be with BOB again" would not have been a friendly affair.

And it wasn't. We have a photo of Mr. C showing up in the New York box on earlier SD cards... then Dale showed up... then Mother. What she did to the couple, she would've done to Mr. C.

>I think Mr C's only agenda was to find a way to shut the real Coop down so he can stay in the real world forever.

Mr. C himself disagrees. He made clear what he was looking for in his hotel room when he showed the Ace. His motivations were further revealed by going after coordinates and looking for Jefferies.

If his #1 goal was to shut the real Cooper down, why did he send goons to clean up after him when Dale was incapacitated for a week or more? Clearly not his #1 goal, but a second-hand priority.

>Why have that guy (Ray?) wear the ring to transport him to the lodge upon death. It made it seem like he was paying MIKE off with Ray's body/spirit, but why?
>also if Mr C wanted to meet Mother, why not just hop on into the black lodge and do some magic mumbo jumbo from there.
>And if Mother already manifested in NY, why not wait for her there then

These aren't very useful questions because there are clear boundaries, rules and rituals required to traverse the lodges & engage with lodge inhabitants. Times, locations, objects; rings, dirt in someone's back pocket, electricity, hallways in the forest, locked doors; I could go on.

please explain this in detail. I'm having a hard time grasping this
>>

They didn't. All of those scenes took place before Diane and Coop went to the new reality and became Richard and Linda.

There is no Pete or Josie or Laura or anyone in the new reality.

There was supposed to be a second trip to Jackrabbit's Palace the day after the original trip, right? I was waiting for it to be some big scene in the finale, kind of disappointed that we didn't get it.

I'm not typing it all out again. It's the fourth time. It's been explained multiple multiple times in the archived threads by many people.

i'm reading these fucking threads while trying to come up with my own bullshit for 6 hours now. I was hoping for a line of thought that would invalidate the "he changed the timeline" theory in favor of the "he went to another world" theory - because both of these things can mean the same thing.
>>
>>87293201
He tried to change the timeline, but Judy wasn't having it and sent Laura to the other world, which is why Cooper goes there to get her

david lynch would never rape his daughter because she's ugly as fuck. if he's raping anyone, it's that chick who plays Tammy.

Honestly, the saddest part.

is sarah the teenage girl who has a weird-looking insect thing enter her mouth while she's sleeping? is that what you mean by "possesed"?
>>
>>87292355
No, Cooper is Richard, but he still remembers the "real" or original world, so he's Cooper but taking the place of another Cooper.

>>87292488
Yes, this, it's some kind of construction of the whitle lodge; Laura was always in the lodge, the whole time. Probably even the original dead Laura was "not herself," but a doppelganger made by the lodge so they could take her (she was always taken) and make a world, a dream where she wouldn't remember that two great evils had taken over her parents and that she was destined to die. So Cooper went into the lodge, came out in time to lead her away from death and into an alternate, dream world within the lodge. Her killing the guy in her house proves a kind of memory she doesn't yet understand, the whole world (the cowboys who remark that it's weird for someone to stop them from killing people is odd itself) is built around her repressed memories. The white lodge wanted to protect Laura's pure soul so that Judy couldn't get to it. The other explanation is that Judy knows she can't ever really kill Laura, so she trapped her in a dream world; it's all to keep Laura from her intended destiny.

>>87292769
Laura never really died.

>>87292954
I agree. BOB didn't want to get taken out of Mr. C because he didn't want to go back to Judy, and the white lodge isn't really friendly to him; honestly think he was looking to go to the white lodge to get help escaping from Judy, because Judy is even more evil than BOB, it would've involved being forced to do things he didn't want to do, which is also probably why BOB stuck around with Mr. C because C had Cooper-like efficiency and was the best host for avoiding an ending where Judy takes BOB back or possibly cannibalizes him for all those years of garmonbozia he gained in Mr. C and other hosts like Leland.

Ray had the ring because the ring needed to go back to the lodge, and then later be handed off to Cooper.

Mr. C and BOB had the exact same goal as Cooper. Defeat Judy somehow.
>>
>>87293376
Not the guy you're responding to, but Sarah was only possessed once Judy escaped from the glass box. The point of episode 8 was Bob's backstory, so the woman in New Mexico who took in the evil bug, which hatched out of the egg that manifested from Bob's orb, was probably Bob's mom.
>>
>>87291245
Judy is anything that can simply be perceived as a hole or a portal. She's the mirror, the screen, the darkness, etc.
