I'd say it's nostalgia. I watched at 13 when I was at the top of my dragon nerdism phase. I still found it shitty. It was frustrating, to see such a cool dragon when 3d was scarce in such a rushed and shitty movie.

The CGI is dated, the costumes are bad, but the story is timeless and the score is incredible.
Besides, you will never see another scenery-chewing knight like Bowen ever again, it's always gonna be some GoT-tier overserious 'i'm acting!' crap.
