You got to take into account that while an adult movie could be pretentious, a kid's pretentious movie is far more "THIS IS THE RIGHT OPINION" disguised as something else, and time lasting, the very things pretentiousness honors.

the flowchart will help you understand the time travel though, and likely you think it is shit because 'it doesn't make sense' or 'it is too jumbled'. If your complaints are with the acting or cinematography then you can give the budget a glance and see the film as more of a character piece about two regular dudes trying to understand how time travel works.

I know that but it's done in a convoluted way. The sci-fi moments in the film seems useless and add to nothing. Like the scene were Nemo and Anna met in space.

Also, I couldn't get past how the sequence between young Anna and Nemo is rip-off of from lovers of the arctic circle.

>My Dinner with Andre

I totally disagree with that. The movie's pretentiousness is by design. The Wallace Shawn character is pretty much the audience, at first he looks at Andre with incredulity, "could anyone really be this pretentious". But as you follow along with the conversation you get lulled into it, and in the end actually come away with something meaningful.

I found the movie in my grandmother's VHS collection when I was 12 and went into it totally cold not know what the hell it was. I actually cried at the end it had such a big impact on me.

Maybe you needed to have first watched this as a teenager when your receptors are the most open, as Lynch says. I have noticed a lot of classic movies are like that, where I feel so grateful I watched it first when I was 15, because if I had seen it as an adult I wouldn't have gotten the impact of it. A lot of these when I rewatch I'm only able to still get them because I remember what they made me feel as a teenager basically.

i thought it was pretentious the first time i saw it. then i watched it a couple years later and it finally clicked with me, the comparing business cards scene was where it finally fell into place for me.

i think total recall is the only movie to have the "was it all in his head' aspect to it and not come off as pretentious at all. that sort of shit is offputting to people, probably because it's so over used by modern art style directors

Spare me, Lynch is a notorious pussy hound. He picks women like Watts, Amick, Fenn etc for the same reason a dude bro does, they are visual pleasing. Lynch is into visual art, all he cares about is that it looks attractive and triggers an exact emotion in you. If you are reading all sorts of metaphors and narratives in his shit, you are a dummy. basically you are one of those people photographing a half eaten sandwhich someone forgot at the modenr art gallery.
>>
>>87280489
He picked attractive women like Watts and whoever played Rita because they are playing actors and those are the kinds of people who become actors

>Are you awake? You were talking recently about the meaning... of our... life... unselfishness of art... Let's take music... It's really least of all connected; to say the truth, if it is connected at all, then in an idealess way, mechanically, with an empty sound... Without... without associations... Nonetheless the music miraculously penetrates into the very soul! What is resonating in us in answer to the harmonized noise? And turns it for us into the source of great delight... And unites us, and shakes us? What is its purpose? And, above all, for whom? You will say: for nothing, and... and for nobody, just so. Unselfish. Though it's not so... perhaps... For everything, in the end, has its own meaning... Both the meaning and the cause...

the producers openly said that it was just meaningless garbage
