Honestly, I thought this movie was almost prophetic.

People have become so desinsitized to terrorism it hardly registers anymore, the government is becoming more and more repressive but still fails to actually run things properly, technology is so needlessly complicated it doesn't work at all most of the time...

Maybe it's just alway been like that, I don't know.

Not bureucracy itself, but the fact that society has gotten too big and complex for any individual or group to be in charge of it. Nobody sees the big picture, because they're all preoccupied with holding on to their position within the machine. They're distracted by the fear of becoming one of those ghoulish poors that haunt Sam in his dreams.
