Whilst I really enjoy the Chet Desmond section of the film and it's important to the tone of the film, it bewilders me anyone would prefer that to the rest of the film.

For Sheryl Lee's performance alone that segment of the film is fantastic.

Just rewached episode 3 from the first season and this conversation between cooper and hawk draw my attention:

I have a theory that The Fireman is actually the dreamer, and the lodge spirits are just his dreams.

The phrase : "We are like the dreamer who dreams, and then lives inside a dream", could mean that the all the lodges, mauve zone, convenience store, etc... are located in different dream or existence planes, and dead is one of the ways of "awakening" from the real world and going to the "Land of the dead" in this case, the black or the white lodge.

The reason why i think the fireman is the dreamer that is above all, it's because he sees the events of both the real and the spiritual world in a screen, and because he knows what is happening and what will happen next. He also created Laura from his head floating in the air laying down.

I had a nightmare about twin peaks.
I was sitting up in a tree when a old man who looked like a mix between Dr Jacoby and a guy I saw hiking earlier this week climbed up. He started talking to me about nature or something when Kyle McLaughlin and Melissa McCarthy came over and told him to come down out of the tree because they were arresting him or something. He did, and said something like "the person you see here is a mere ruse, my true nature is beneath." He did an unzipping motion with one hand, like he was wearing a person suit, but nothing changed about him. Kyle grabbed him by the shoulders and started freaking out, and eventually they arrested him and Melissa McCarthy curbstomped his actual butt I guess. He made a little "ow" noise. Kyle was still freaking out, so she turns to him and says "what's the matter, never dealt with a freak like that before?" And Kyle says "I'm just not good with that kinda stuff" when suddenly the pupils of his eyes turn black with a yellow square in the middle and the black stuff starts dripping down his face until one of his eyes are all that I can see. At the same time a loud high pitched tone happens, like that scene with the fingernail from the ring, that kinda bubbled and died like it blew out the speakers it was being played on.
