That happens in comics as well. The real reason why it "works" in comics is that you're looking at stationary frames. There's no actual motion, so your brain fills in what happens between frames with its imagination. If it weren't for that limitation of the medium, you'd think comics look just as silly and unrealistic as comic book movies.
