So are we all in agreement that TLJ is just going to be an ESB remake.
>>
>>87194236

The super star destroyer can at least somewhat make sense, they still have the Kuat Drive Yards under their control.

Also, the super star destroyer did absolutely nothing in Empire other than showing off the Empire's might, hence the show fleet amassing and the normal star destroyers getting covered in shadow. The star destroyer from TFA was already huge on its own.

I guess we'll see the MF in an asteroid field, because two movies already did it.

I'd be fine with snoke having a giant SD for his HQ but it's obvious that Disney is just trying to out do the OT for the sake of it. Look at the first order AT-ATs which are twice the size of the OTs walkers.

The whole thing is retarded as the first order is meant to be the left over remnants of the empire. They should be acting like a guerilla force using terrorist attacks and hit and run tactics rather than fighting pitched battles.
>>
>>87194482

Where are they even getting all this shit? The Empire needed established manufacturers to make their equipment. I think the lore even says they wasted a huge amount of the budget on making star destroyers. Like the Rebels used ships that already existed, the MonCal cruisers were converted from civilian use.
>>
You'd think the Empire would learn not to put all their eggs in one basket. Can't wait for a single kamikaze fighter craft to take out a 30 mile long spaceship filled with four hundred thousand people.

>did any bit of media ever explain why the First Order seems to have more resources than the Empire?

Friday Night Star Wars thread spoiler guy here.

They're setting up the reason in the books, and it will be thoroughly revealed over time.

Basically Snoke existed in the dark regions of the galaxy. He's massively wealthy and he's the one who has been bankrolling the empire. This is much in the same way that the Banking Clans funded the Separatists in the Prequel Trilogy.

Snoke's ultimate goal is control of all the wealth in the known galaxy.
>>
>>87196075
I've never understood what that means, that parenthetical is so confusing. Does it mean human supremacy in the star wars setting is an allegorical representation of real world white supremacy? Or that the Empire is actually white supremacist (they kinda were in the OT)? The Empire is both white supremacist *and* human supremacist?

It's the FO's equivalent of Kuat Drive Yards and Coruscant altogether. Smaller star destroyers dock on it to get repairs, everyone not stationed elsewhere in the FO lives on it, and it's the sole base of operations for the FO instead of using a stationary planet.
>>
>>87194178

How else are they going to justify having a planet/solar system/galaxy destroying laser on a ship? You can't just put the Deathstar-Starkiller-Turbo-Hyperlaser 4.0: The Revengenance on a piddly star destroyer.
>>
>>87196487
So its basically a aircraft-carrier.

But comically big with no real upsides to it. I wish the designs of these things were a bit more logical. But hey, at least it doesn't have a massive exposed bridge that disables the entire thing right?
>>
>>87196506
It's secret up until TFA when the FO comes out into the galaxy in full force. That's all that mattered before then. Canonically, Leia feared the FO had a super star destroyer somewhere, but had no proof of it.
>>
>>87196258
>>87196421
No. If you were going to imply something like that it would be the Banking Clan from the Prequels.

Snoke is more like Space Donald Trump. He used to be handsome, he's white, he has blue eyes, and he owns the casino on Canto Bight.

That's pretty cool then. If it's been roving the far parts of the galaxy securing resources and supply lines for the FO then it's a decent analogue to pic related

Too bad it'll inevitably get wrecked when Rey and friends sneak on board or launch a torpedo into an exposed reactor or something
>>
>>87194529
This is never going to be explained. There is a trend all across media these days to completely jettison logic and details like "how the hell is a defeated rump government mass-producing huge war engines". It's the same trend that has characters teleporting all over the place and doing implausible shit in Game of Thrones.

Lucas was a hack, but he kept the setting in the sequels consistent enough that it made some kind of sense and still felt like the same setting. This new series makes no sense at all and things just happen to set up the next plot twist with no attempt made to explain how it's all possible in the first place.

Yes, but it's a Revell model. They're just showing the lineage of the new Tie Silencer. It's not meant to imply that there's yet another Death Star. It's just being used as an exciting graphic and to show tradition.

Starkiller Base is Ilum, the main planet that the Jedi used for kyber crystal harvesting for lightsabers. The Empire then moves on to claim it and mine it for the DS projects. It isn't until after the Empire falls for good that the FO gets their hands on it.

>>87196881
Nothing's been contradicted yet in canon, so I don't see why it would happen so soon.

>>
>>87193697
why does it look as though it has flaps? That's just stupid.
>>
>>87197157

It's not the worlds that are dangerous, but the paths getting there. You have to route lanes through areas of space where you're least likely to hit something along the way, and I guess no one's really bothered going into the other side of the galaxy.
>>
>>87197157
>This sounds like total bullshit considering how many other dangerous worlds we've seen.
All the dangerous worlds are in the part of the galaxy that got mapped out. The Unknown Regions is literally a quarter of the galaxy or so in size, and it holds more space anomalies (black holes, weird static storms, shit like that) than the rest of the galaxy.
> How do they have the manpower to build so many weapons without hiring from existing companies?
They come out of the UR in small, usually stolen ships to steal people (mainly children) from outer rim planets that the New Republic won't notice go missing. Plus, there are inhabited planets in the UR, stranded there generations ago and left to grow on their own. Chiss, whatever Snoke's people is, Phasma's planet, etc, are all currently known examples.
>>
>>87196838
Anyone else notice that there is a pilot with a lightsaber in the upper right corner.

What did they mean by this?
>>
>>87197074
>They live in the Unknown Regions, which is literally unmapped and people are too afraid to go into it for fear of the unknown - hence the name.
If the unknown regions are so unknown, then how does the FO that is hiding out there have enough recruits to fully staff a ship with a 60-km wingspan? How do they have the manpower and infrastructure to build and maintain all of these superweapons and fleets of ships in the "Here be dragons"part of space?
>>
>>87197248
That doesn't explain why the First Order seems to be stronger than the Republic. If the Republic has control of such a large portion of the galaxy, they should outgun the FO.

All I can think of after reading this thread is the team of new-EU writers twisting themselves into knots trying to justify and realistically explain every pants on head retarded thing Disney wants to shoehorn into the franchise.

That's why old EU is better. It had 20 years to grow organically, and yeah some writers added cringey shit (the comics were actually the biggest culprit here) but often that was retconned later and ironed out by the better writers.

>The Separatist issue arose because there was no Republic army to stop the blockade and no powerful chancellor.
The Separatist problem started with companies leaving the Republic to form the CIS. The Naboo Crisis was only there to introduce one of the key players of the war and give Palpatine a reason to get the Chancellor seat. The CIS isn't formed until roughly right before or even during AOTC.

This mothership moves like a B2 bomber, right? Wings are bigger than the, "body".

So when it says, 60km "long," does that mean from front-to-back like regular measures of a ship, or 60km from left-to-right because that's the longest line of measurement?

I know people love to shit on video games on this board, but Knights of the Old Republic 2 is probably my favourite bit of Star Wars content out there. It gets rushed towards the end because the devs didn't have time to finish the game, but it delves pretty deep into some very esoteric force-mysticism stuff that's just right up my alley. It's excellent but I'm not sure if I can recommend it to people who don't like video games, the gameplay hasn't aged well and it uses a clunky DND-inspired D20 combat system that will probably turn most people off.

This is the crux of the new SW movies and movies in general nowadays. Not that there isn't some good/decent relatively original stuff out there, but I feel like this is an age of sequels, redos, remakes, reboots, book rip-offs, etc. It's all about playing it safe, appealing to as wide an audience as possible, and shooting for average in order to make as many buckaroos as possible. Corporate power is very fickle. What if he gets voted out by the shareholders of his own company? What if because of market difficulties the company (or companies) in question just stops making money? What if an anti-big business genuinely fascist (that wasn't Palpatine's) or communist dictatorship were to take over? It's just too many possibilities where you can drop from power. Whereas as all-powerful dictator, you can't. Assassinations also aren't a factor when you're an all-powerful magician. Both in EU and nu-canon a lot of people tried to off Palpatine and all failed because he just BTFO them with the Force.

>Rey then proceeds to Use the Force(TM) to operate every single control on the Death Star(TM), and fly it through the system, dodging hundreds of lase beams, and blowing up most of the system while spinning around like a disco ball.

Even Star Destroyers don't land, they just repulsorlift hover a kilometer or two up. I guess this ship could as well if it needed to.

There is no explanation for Starkiller base regardless. Even if you had the money you wouldn't spend it on that. There would never be a need to put everything into one super weapon like that. You could just build multiple smaller death star like ships and aim them at all the planets in the star system together.

It's more practical and if one fails you aren't fucked.

The fact they could build such a ridiculous thing is compounded by the fact even if they could, who the fuck would. Starkiller base is too retarded to exist.

I get that these space fantasies tend to ignore gravity for the most part, but a ship that size would never be meant to land on planet. The whole point of having massive stations like that in space is to avoid the cost of moving large ships/parts of planet. Building them in space from smaller parts and resources that are easier to get into space is a better solution.

The Legend known throughout the entire Universe as the most powerful weapon to ever exist. This, my greatest creation, has become a Super Death Star!"
But then in George Lucas' original version it's revealed that it is actually Kylo who has become the true Super Death Star as having seen his master die at the hand of Rey, he is engulfed by a great rage. A rage that causes him to morph into a super mega ultra death star, and then exclaim in a Darth Vader voice: "Now I am Death Star."

Yeah, I was disappointed by Jay when he said Ridley was charismatic in their initial review of the movie in HitB. I thought she was competent (in that she had emotions, unlike rabbit teeth in RO), but that those emotions (like in quite a few of the other characters) were hypercharged. That seems to be an Abrams thing. In Star Trek 2009, shit was hypercharged, and it was in TFA as well. I don't think JJ knows how to write a movie where shit can actually slow down for a few moments and things going on in the movie universe can be reasonably explained to the audience. He has to make everything constantly sweeping action with rushed dialogue that often happens during the action itself or a scene with an up-tempo pace.

The acting is flat, the writing is terrible, the premise is shit to begin with (it's on the same tier as extended universe bullshit), and because everything else about it is bad, the only thing left to hold it up is nostalgia in the form of a couple of Darth Vader cameos, CGI Moff Tarkin & Leia, and the time/setting itself (including the vehicles, weapons, stormtroopers, costumes, etc). You know, ironically, i think 'single handedly' piloting a fuckhuge thing like that would be way easier than the falcon.

Why would the small group label itself the Resistance and make themselves seem like losers?

I'd reccomend the Star Wars: X-Wing series.
Follows Rogue Squadron Post-RotJ, deals with the splintering of the Empire as every Moff and Admiral makes a mad grab for power. Helps set the stage for Thrawn and his return.
Also the conquest of Coruscant and other nice set piece moments.

I would pay good money to see a twenty minute spinning death star solar system destroying rave, completely played straight except for bb-8 bouncing all over the fucking place screaming its head off.

All the bounty hunter groups stories are breddy gud, although if you want the cliffs notes, just listen to each of the MC Chris songs.

Dengar did nothing wrong.

Revell fucking angers me. They make a few dozen different car and tank models with 100+ pieces and then their sci-fi line consists of that shitty Space 1999 ship they've been selling for forty years and fucking 12-piece snap fit X-wings.

To top it off Bandai is making Perfect Grade 1/72 scale X-wings and Millenium Falcons but we can't buy them in the states because Revell is controlling the license.

Shit. If they don't want to put in the effort than license molds from somebody who does.
>>
>>87202954

It's funny, no matter how hard they try to make the Empire bad, they're still the coolest group.

George ended up going to "both sides are bad and have good people" with the PT, with the Empire being literally the Republic. This is far more intellectually sound.

the jedi are objectively evil. The only good one in the ot is luke who is going off of lies.

But space guerilla's flying spaceships of peace into Neo-federation buildings would look too much like Jihadism and that is very problematic. Evil must continue to look like Nazis in space to creat muh deep subtext about Trump's America â„¢.

Its such bullshit, especially since they only have one squad of X-wings, which is less than what they had since episode 5. Its just a lame way to make the good guys the underdogs again.
>ywn get the Alliance to restore the Empire being a terrorist organization that grows from small movement to full on galactic conflict
This was the perfect opportunity for a role reversal, but i guess that would've been to smart for Jar Jar Abrams.
The new trilogy would've been way better if they borrowed more from the prequels.

How on Earth did they fucking build this in secrecy? Not only that but how did they build this and Starkiller Base (a space station as big as a fucking planet) in secrecy without any more resources? Surely after Episode 6 they would need more money and parts but somehow Disney makes the Empire the strongest as ever after they lose at end of Episode 6.

I wish the normies would understand how absurd this sounds and call JJ a hack.
