Eddie Murphy definitely. Comign to America and Trading places are tow of my favorite moveis ever made. Jim Carrey was best in his dramatic works like Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine. Sandler and Hart aren't even worth mentioning.

not even right my dude, in the 90's jim had mainstream audience by the balls. he was the go to comedic leading man, adam sandler was barely making a name for himself and early 2000's found his groove as leading man. jim by then (early 2000's) was in a small decline and started looking for different more dramatic roles, but managed to stay relevant. the last 7-10 years has been rough for jim as far as projects. the jenny mccarthy shit really brought bad vibes for him.
sandler's best movies aren't his most profitable, his most profitable, highest exposure projects are actually his mainstream shit he's done with his happy gilmore crew. but they're big sellers because they're goofy family films. his stuff like big daddy and happy gilmore was way more adult than kid friendly, but because he worked with kids young parents who grew up watching him assumed he was a family entertainer.

Murphy was giant in the 80's and 90's. he was a famous as fuck stand up, who acted more like a rock star than a comedian. he became a leading man comedic actor. and his projects where hits after hits. his 2000's stuff was what started to decline in quality, but that wasn't really noticeable for a while. he, like tom cruz and will smith, where guys who always hit the numbers and never had a flop. but in the mid 2000's after shrek 2 or 3, his movies where bomb after bomb. not even disney was making money with him. he's pretty much out of the game as of now.

heart is new so who knows how big he'll get or how long it will last. grantd he does a lot of big mainstream projects, but his hype is nowhere near these other guys. just to compare them modernly, jim/eddie where closer to kanye west or some shit, where everyone knows who they are even if they don't like them they've seen most of his stuff.
>>

Happy Gilmore was better than anything Jim Carrey did.
>>
>>87190598
the flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long bro. Eddie was a hit. He was huge. No one was parallel to him in his prime. But Eddie Murphy fell off faster than Jim carry, who was able to stay relevant a little longer than him.

>>
>>87190973
eddie's stand up tho
>>
>>87190731
even if you feel that way, we're talking commercially, sandler never hit the fame level and longevity that jim did.

the thing is people are putting them in the same group because they are all hyper mainstream stand up comedians who became actors. but eddie murphy was famous before jim was even hitting the open mics or sandler was graduating hs. eddie was huge before all of them, and thus his career hit it's mids and lows earlier too.

jim came next as far as fame goes, he hit mainstream success faster than adam sandler. but there's a close overlap. just like jim overlapped with eddie a little, it was eddies mid-end and jims beggining-mid.

heart has no over lap with any of them, all of them are close to calling it quits, they're all older and already had their highest highs. adam sandler found a groove with netflix movies so who knows how long that he'll keep working. jim and eddie haven't done shit. heart closest competitor is louis ck and he's great, but nowhere near hearts league of fame (not talent but fame) because of the age and looks. ck got famous too late in the game.
>>
>>87190775
carey easily, sandler holds his own well. but carey has always had range. sandler does happy/mad and depressed, while carey does everything in the emotional spectrum.

Murphy is good at being at any role. But most of them are shit movies.

Carrey and Sandler always being themselves no matter what character they get.

Carrey have this unique style of body language and it s funny whatever thinks he did.

Sandler does comefy naturally, i mean he look cool while doing jokes it doesnt seem he try so hard for it

And for Hart, he's not even funny. He is overacting to make he look funny and its annoying. Thats why, he never got his own movie but always a sidekick. On the other hand, Seth Rogen/Jonah Hill/James Franco group did the better job at comedy than him om this generation

>>87190598

>>
>>87191351
maybe because you're too young?
you're saying you haven't heard of his fame, dude lots of people lived through it. again sandler hit his height of fame later than carey did. but sandler has never been as big as eddie and carey. it's not about the now because if you're talking about them only being relevant if they're relevant today, then only kevin heart fits that bill. so you can't say well i missed that fame wave so it never happened. sandler's last hit was grown ups. by grown ups 2 and his current netflix stuff, he's not exactly the top guy he once was. which is fine he's gotten older, of course younger talent has to take that spot.

it's also not about who's the most talented, just that some people have had higher highs and eddie murphey 80's and 90's was HUGE. jim in the 90's and early 2000's was gigantic
>>
>tfw you can never go back to the 90's

>>
>>87192168
well the 90's he was hitting a slump and in the early 2000's he got his final wind in family films.

but in the 90's was
another 48 hours, Beverly hills cop 3, vampire in Brooklyn, the nutty professor, metro (action/comedy movie), mulan, doctor dolittle, holly man.

out of all of those i think the nutty professor and dr. dolittle are his biggest, but the rest where sequels and action type stuff so it's not strictly comedic roles which usually do better.

in the 90's martin was a tv actor, his big movie break came in bad boys which was 1995. and while he and will smith where big at that time, eddie had already been famous for over a decade.

also 94 was when jim came out with the mask, ace ventura, and dumb and dumber. he dominated that year and became an a-list since, well until 2008 or 2010 where by then he was no longer leading man in the roles.

The one and only.

It's simply due to the fact that he was the only comic who managed to do comedy and drama so well, I can't think of a single bad performance. Way too many classic movies to count.

Then I'd say Jim Carrey is sligthly ahead of Murphy for the same reasons, he starred in some of the best drama ever. Ediie is still phenomenal though and must be credited for the breath of fresh air his acting style brought to the screen.

Sandler and Hart ? LOL

To be fair, Sandler is I juggernaut in his own right and pumped some seminal comedies. Eddie honestly could of been a bigger star if America didn't stereotype black comics, he had the ability to play man roles. Black actors in general back in the days were not friendly to white America's subconscious/imagination. This has nothing to do with racism but believability and psychological complexion. Eddie was a den guy off screen like Norm said. He had a lot of potential.

For those reddit millennials born in 1998, eddie murphy is a actor that was probably the biggest star in 1980s/early1900s, too bad that tranny incident ruined his career

You only hear more about Adam Sandler because he's been in more movies recently than Carrey however Carrey's fame in the 90s completely overshadows Sandler back then and now. If you weren't around then I can understand why you think Sandler was more popular but trust me Carrey was a phenomenon twenty years ago.

Never seen any of Harts movies, so I cant speak for him, but out of those three Jim had the best movies, in his prime.

Is he really a nobody now? People who were around when he was huge still fondly remember him and I'm glad he slowly started appearing in less and less before he ended up in appearing in nothing but shit tarnishing his legacy. Granted he did appear in some bad movies like 23 and Kickass 2 but those are the only two outright shit ones I can even think of.
