It's really hard to not make them political. Wars are always a heavy part of politics, and almost any movie about wars has to show what the soldiers think of it, and those thoughts will be political. I think it's possible to make them not political by focusing more on the nuts and bolts of it, but I can guarantee you will never make a movie that there won't be at least some people will find political.
