I still don't get what the point of the new AT-AT is. They bring nothing the regular AT AT can't do, and it doesn't seem like they have anything that can defend from the shit that could take an AT AT down.

There was a reason ANH was originally titled "Star Wars", and why Empire is titled and opens the way it is. The plot was originally about Wars in Stars, or Space... or something. Once you get to Dagobah, that's it. The series is irredeemable from that point because it shifts focus almost completely to Luke/Vader's shoehorned relationship.
