The film itself is cynical. It portrays death as nothing but bleak when most people put faith in some sort of afterlife.
The film is just non stop "LOOK HOW MEANINGLESS EVERYTHING IS!"

I'm not saying it's a bad film but it's definitely pretentious and cynical.
