Why the fuck is it a prequel?
>TOS nostalgia
It looks nothing like TOS and the TOS fanbase is getting too old
>develop starfleet history more
It's only set a few years before TOS, I don't know what they could possibly show that we haven't already seen
>More writer freedom
I can't possibly see how it would be easier to write a prequel with how much star trek canon there is

The problem with all of these is they are all based on a throw away line from First Contact, saying the Federation is 8000 light years across (large federation theory). Until that line was said we were just guessing and all fucked up because the distance is changed routinely to fit the plot line (like the recent GOT bird letter). Now of course after they said 8000 light years, then the next reference was in DS9 where Red Squad had to circumnavigate the entire Federation (small federation theory). It wouldn't be possible if it was 8000 light years in one direction, even if you stuck with a 2D plane.
Lastly the next fuck up was in Enterprise where the distance to Vulcan and Klingon homeworld was very short. So, back to small Federation theory.

>>87146077
No, TBG kept mentioning it all through the final season any time they exceeded Warp 5
For some reason Worf was able to make the Klingons agree to abide by Starfleet's speed limit, and the Romulans volunteered. Because that's how serious space climate change was.
Then DS9 and Voyager just pretended it never happened

http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Variable_geometry_pylon
>According to the unpublished VOY Season 1 edition of the Star Trek: Voyager Technical Manual by Rick Sternbach and Michael Okuda, (p. 12) it was suggested that because of this new folding wing-and-nacelle configuration, warp fields might no longer have a negative impact on habitable worlds as established in TNG: "Force of Nature". According to Star Trek Encyclopedia, (3rd ed. p. 555) these nacelles did in fact prevent damage to subspace. According to comments by Michael and Denise Okuda, when mentioning of the speed limit was abandoned a few years after "Force of Nature", it was assumed that newer ships, such as the USS Voyager and USS Defiant, had improved environmentally friendly warp drive systems, that did not cause damage to the spatial continuum.

Given that space is 3D, that the galactic plane is far thicker than most people give it credit for, and that it's essentially impossible to demarcate and enforce a real border beyond "don't be inside our systems," it's easily possible for the core of the Federation, the Klinks, the Roms, and the Spoonies to be very close to each other while also leading expansive and non-overlapping realms.

Hoshi and Trip both died from a really dangerous virus in "Observer Effect"
So since the Cardies and the Romulans are fucked by the end of DS9 and Nemesis and the Klingons are weakened, what faction do you see filling in the power vacuum? Pic unrelated
Why did they start the whole "Trip is sick so T'Pol needs to give him naked massages" storyline instead of just having her fuck Archer, like they were building up all along?
>>87144737
she was so cute before they recast her.
>>87153339
Do you mean as a villain?
Maybe the Breen, but they're more pirates/isolationist.
The real answer is nobody. The Romulans and Cardies were fucked hard by the war, the Obsidian Order was destroyed and the Tal Shiar weakened and run by a Federation spy. The Dominion is being run by Odo.
The Klingons are closer than ever and realize they shouldn't fuck with the humans again, although I think they did for some stupid reason in the (((novels))).
Maybe the Kzinti cat people.
Or the Borg for a quick invasion storyline.
Why were they all wearing sweaters!?
>>87153339
Feds seem to be the dominant power now. Other than an alliance of Klingons, Romulans, Cardies and minor powers (which is unlikely), there's no real challenger.
Of course, an unknown "evil" is always possible.
The Husnock were unheard of until they wiped that Fed planet, and the Alpha Quadrant isn't fully mapped out at all.

Space is big; other than the Borg, there really isn't a group that desires for galactic domination that also has the tech to travel very fast.
Some unknown species in the AQ would probably be the next threat when the Feds run into them.
>>87153661
The Husnocks "only" had 50 billion people, which isn't that much for a interstellar empire.
The Andorans alone have around 40 billion. Humans a little less. So the Federation population, with its hundreds of members, is in the hundreds of billions.
It's unlikely a major power is undiscovered in the alpha quadrant

What powered Voyager's holodecks? They often talked about Voyager's hologrid as an "independent subsystem", but they never showed what generated the power, like an ore processor or whatever. And those episodes where main power is offline but the holoprojectors are still operational or vice versa show the power systems to be incompatible, as otherwise they could share and ration energy by using transformers to convert the differing voltages and the system wouldn't be, as stated, offline.

this is the same ship that had bio-neural gel packs which only seemed to add the fact that now the ship can get diseases
>>87162532
Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but wasn't it designed for long range but short duration missions? That's why it was so fast and advanced, but it didn't have the size and supplies to function independently as long as bigger ships could.

It's fine to do anything else other than type out such things so normal people have to get through half the sentence before they realize you've gone overboard.

Sorry lads, Klingon girls are the best, also half Klingon girls.
Loyal, fierce and able to train with you. Not wanting a loyal, fierce fighting wife. What are you, faggots?

No way Vulcan/Human isn't the best hybrid.

Klingons and their hybrids have anger management problems. A Vulcan/Human hybrid is physically superior, mentally sound and has psychic powers. They're also better looking.

Human and humans only.
Best captains? Humans
Best engineers? Humans
Best soldiers? Humans

The election was that dude vs. Obama for Illinois senator.
