Martin is great for the early game where his experience and decisiveness makes dealing with trash mobs and more direct challenges easier (as long as you're not speedrunning), but he rarely makes it to late game without a lot maintenance, and SPOILER with Daphne's inevitable exit from the party as healslut if you're progressing her good path, he falls off hard. He really lacks the INT to get the most out of the more complex final encounters, too.

You have to stack Ballantine's like crazy to prevent him from becoming distressed then petrified when she ambushes, though. It just isn't worth it when you barely have to invest in Char for Frasier or Niles to avoid the battle entirely.

Niles is too prone to panic and hyperventilate under pressure, and if you try to counterbalance him with the unflappable stolidness and work ethic of Daphne, his Romance meter skyrockets and only exacerbates the problem. It's a disastrous comp, how did you even get through the sequence?
