It's kinda tragic how the only difference between this and the sequel a few years back was their ungraceful aging. While of course copy-pasting half of the same jokes didn't do them any favors, seeing them rehashing the same shit and embellishing it even further made it more prevalent to compare how unsavory their attempts to capture their old roles were. they were caricatures of their former roles. Lloyd and Harry were stupid, but they weren't legit retards like the sequel. In the sequel, Lloyd doesn't know what sex is, and both of them are so absurd in their stupidity that they probably couldn't be able to tell time or do remedial math and played with their own feces.

In the original, Harry could read proficiently, and he tried to manage a tight budget. While taking the responsibility of driving through the country when possible. And Lloyd definitely knew what sex is, considering he mentions doing it, threatening to rape Harry, and was nearly raped himself by Sea Bass. It wasn't so much that they were stupid, but they were ignorant to the ways of the world and often lacked common sense.

They could've made a great comedy, but Farrelly brothers(hot off the shit 3 Stooges flick) resorted to insanely stupid cartoon gags, instead of witty writing and delivery.

Fuck man. I baffles me that they got the original writers, directors and actors back for this whole thing and none of them seemed to have any idea what made the original so good.

While no means a masterpiece of cinema, the original movie feels "genuine" for the lack of a better word. Harry and Lloyd aren't spiteful or mean-spirited - They are just ignorant to the results of their actions and the movie just feels like two dumb dudes who are trying to make the best of what little they have. The sequel has them dial up that dumb to eleven and going around being pricks to everyone. Call it nostalgiafaggotry or whatever the fuck, but the sequel fails to leverage their idiocy to humanize them and instead makes me fucking despise them.

This is one definitely up there.

I don't know about the best of all time but it definitely is one of the better ones out there. I never saw it as a kid, so when I watched it for the first time a couple nights ago it wasn't nostalgia that made me enjoy it so much.
