Colbert spent too much time with Podesta.
>>
>>87112044
His ratings spiked when he started attacking the President, so he's gone all-in so he can keep his spot at the top of late-night talk shows. This is a fact. Other shows like Kimmel and even Fallon (a little) are following suit in hopes of a ratings bump.

This is not comedy though. Comedy is played for laughs, not applause. People do full sets of "Drumph, amirite?" for applause. It's hack bullshit and it makes comedy bad.

It's obvious that it was he who changed while you stayed the same.

This is unreal though. Every single video. Is Trump his life now? Even his interviews are just about Trump

What is he now?
>>
>>87112486
And his ratings are higher than ever, which means his ad revenue and his paychecks are higher than ever. This is why people make TV shows.

Higher than ever is relative though

Also he could have even higher ratings if he did porn

Is this what he is now? The Trump man?
>>
>>87112578
You sound nuts. He can't do porn on network TV. I explained it clearly and you'd just rather be mad. Believe me, once you realize that most everything is bullshit, you won't feel so angry anymore. It's very calming.
>>
Sometimes I don't know if it's me or everyone I admired or knew whose opinion I respected that changed. /Pol/, I'm confused. Who sold out?
>>
>>87112486

Wiki leaks show him taking orders from the DNC. He's state media for all intents and purposes.
>>
Wasn't he going to retire the Colbert character? They only brought back Stephen on the Tonight Show because they gave him a fat paycheck.

Every talk show host is making fat cash off of Trump's back, they shit talk him but without him, they're out of the job.
>>
>>87112617
You're missing my point. Just because he has ratings doesn't mean what he's doing is sane. This is insane. His entire being is to just trash Trump all day every day. How long will he able to go on like this for?
>>
TWO Hurricanes!
>>
>>87112717

For as long as it gets ratings
>>
>>87112627
It's got to be that this is making him feel important, and make him feel a sense of purpose in life. Being the Trump man makes him feel important I bet, because this obsession just not normal otherwise.
>>
>>87112759

No, it's a bit of both probably. A lot of anons are saying his ratings are up, they're right. Their shows basically die unless they scream drumpf. Don't really need to look much into it, they're in their death knells.

>>
>>87112878
Exactly. And a bunch of people who never gave a rat fuck about late-night network TV now tune in to watch him. So he does more of what they like.
>>
>>87112044
He's been an establishment hack since he tried to sandbag Assange in an interview on his show, which obviously was before he went into the Ecuadorian embassy. ~6 years running at least.

They probably thought he was just a guy who was critical of authority when he was doing his act in the bush era.

It wasn't obvious he was just a party shill until a year or so into Obama's first term.
>>
>>87112044
What do you mean?
Isn't he still selling the exact same Colbert schlock he was supposed to retire?
>>
>>87113651
I guess. Still it's ironic to see how they embraced much of what he was satirizing.
>>
>>87113743
Which they? I don't think anybody who misread him as a general anti-authoritarian and stopped liking him afterwards unironically supports any of the shit fake Colbert promoted.

After the Obama administration its hard to differentiate between what he advocated for in a mocking way and what he was a genuine proponent of under the veneer of ironic detachment. Drone strikes for example.

I've never understood how anyone could think he was serious. A coupl of Americans moved next door, a old tranny and the lesbian wife. They used to invite me over for dinner and watching the daily show and they loved Colbert. His satire was never really covert.
>>
>>87113527
That's how retarded poltards are. They literally don't know when people are joking or being serious
>>
>>87114034
My question to you is why you believe there is anybody who ever thought he was being serious? Everybody always understood he was playing a character ironically; the only question has been what actually were the positions he supported under the guise of satire.

People used to love him on tv a long way back, and claim how he was putting liberals in their place. Maybe my autism allowed me to be trolled, but it felt like people were serious.
>>
>>87114164
lol I think you are confabulating meme pics of baby boomers on facebook and first hand memory.
>>
>>87112518
Everyone keeps saying muh ratings. Yet I hear the so called figures are only 1-2 millions. That's pretty awful. Even your shitty clickbait eceleb like Jake Paul probably gets better numbers than that.
>>
>>87114196
No I distinctly remember arguing with people here about how they didn't see through his satire and they claimed he was the greatest thing in putting forth conservative values and putting liberals in their place.
>>
>>87114199
>yet I hear
source bitch or kill yourself
>>
>>87114199
Dude, who gives a shit about e-celebs? I know that they are the future, but advertisement money from those sites is much less substantial than the dying meme that is TV.

Colbert is killing it and leading in the ratings on TV. He's doing real good numbers and getting unlimited bucks off of it.

The Trump stuff is working real well. He ain't stopping anytime soon.
>>
>>87114278
Then yes I think you were being trolled.
>>
>What happened to the old colbert?
He started mocking someone who you support. That's all that happened.
I still like Colbert, even though I voted Trump, because despite being conservative, I don't take politics as seriously as you faggots. Trump ain't perfect.
>>
>>87112759
Hundreds of millions of people shit on Trump every day. He just gets paid millions of dollars for it.
>>87114199
His show is on at 11:35 on weeknights. Ratings are measured by timeslot. So if he gets 1-2 million and every other network at that time gets 700k, that's really good.
>>
>>87112486
>herd that cant think for themselves hate trump
>make show revolve around shitting on everything trump does

why he would you talk about something else? just be grateful you can think for yourself
>>
>>87114317
If the archive went that far back I'd link it. It wasn't just one thread or one poster. This was something that lasted a long time. People generally thought Colbert was conservative. He was also a catholic a point that was often raised.
>>
>>87114398
He is a catholic irl.
>>
>>87114199
> Yet I hear

source, your ass
>>
>>87114093
Because they're too stupid to understand satire. (see: any Starship Troopers thread)
>>
>>87114421
Yeah I know. It was why people thought he was genuine in his satire.
>>
Am I the only one that thinks Colbert is as funny as ever? Sometimes I suspect people only dislike him because they're Trump supporters.
Some of the people that dislike him are misrepresenting him so bad, too. Like, for example, the "two scoops" meme. Colbert was never angry over the two scoops, he made reference to it like twice in the show and they were just small gags. That was CNN making headlines out of it, not Colbert. I wonder if people who meme it up even know that's the case or if they legitimately believe Colbert is mad about scoops, or hell, if they even care one way or another.

Ya think? Dumbass.
>>
>>87114472
Don't buy this narrative tbqf. Colbert basically making this joke in the first season of his show by showing clips of some guys on a fox panel show talking positively about a clip from the Colbert Report as if they didn't understand he was mocking them, and its probably the source of the general perception you are recalling.
>>
>>87114513
I've never liked him. As I said some Americans moved in my street and I watched it with them weekly and it was annoying to me. Then I had to take care of their 30 year old cat for half a year and only feed it cat food smithies and watch the daily show with it.

>Sometimes I suspect people only dislike him because they're Trump supporters

Good comedy: Pointing out how Trump's actions and policies are flawed in a way that makes the audience laugh.
Bad comedy: Having a literal orange cartoon with tiny hands say wacky things every night.

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/weekly-ratings/late-night-ratings-august-21-25-2017-the-tonight-show-leads-encore-heavy-week/

As per source, his viewership is around 3 million. Definitely better than what was previously stated. But again, nothing spectacular. The same website claims the bachelor has 4m while America got talent has 13m even though somehow I never heard anyone talking about them. Game of thrones finale had a whooping 16.5m.

Perhaps the attention he gets compared to actual viewership is a bit too high.
