Predictions? Sure.

I won't go see it.
I'll see the camrip up on torrent sites, but won't bother downloading it.
Months later I'll see the HD BR rip up and will download it out of boredom.
I'll watch it for fifteen minutes, start skipping ahead to see if it ever gets any better. Then I'll just give up and shut it off.
I'll put it in storage and forget about it till I'm running out of room and then I'll see it and think "why did I ever save that" and delete it.

I think everything about it might be good, the kid's comradely being the highlight, except the critical problem is the clown. He's not fucking scary or unsettling in the slightest. There's no innocence to him. He looks like a deliberate attempt at making a scary clown, like it's obvious he's a monster. Even his outfit looks too Hollywood-grade. The Curry clown is wonderfully terrifying because he's almost a full-blown circus clown except with some details to make it unsettling

There's no way of telling how scary the movie is yet except for the scares from the trailer, all of which fell flat imo.

I liked the miniseries, I've seen it 3 times in the past couple of months to prepare for this film while also reading the book and listening to the audio book.

That said, it's production value was...not good. Tim, while a wonderful actor, was not a good Pennywise. They didn't have much in common with the book and that's where I think this film will shine. There are some liberties taken, like no Mummywise or Werewolf, but there are also little touches that weren't in the miniseries here that make me think they give a shit.

>>
>>87118149
The Curry one has unkempt, bright red hair to resemble blood; it basic color symbolism that also contrasts with the deathly, pale white skin. The head alone is what you remember and yes, everything about the garment and the design suggests a normal clown but something a little off.

The new one is always doing that menacing, "I'm of ill-intent if you haven't guessed" look that nobody finds scary. Nobody. There's nothing special about his costume except that it looks more grandiose which just makes it more of an obvious. Everything about him looks like a generic evil clown.

That being said, the design of the clown and a few moments where Tim Curry didn't ham it up too much were the only things good about the miniseries.
>>
>>87115792

Dandelo.

I can't remember, did he change forms or anything?
>>
>>87118663
You realize the new Penny is book accurate and the design isn't 'generic' evil clown.

I thought so too when I first saw it, I even shit talked it, but after some consideration and reading up on it I realized it's pretty fucking clever. The head is supposed to remind you of a child/gourd, and the body is that of an arachnoid look.

The spider thing really threw me for a loop, but that really made it interesting to me.
>>
>>87118728
>You realize the new Penny is book accurate

So? It's Stephen King. It was improved on
>>
>>87117940

Even the climax of the book switches back and forth.

>>
>>87118757
I think it shows that the creators care about the source material. King is far from perfect but if you stray too far from source material you get shit like BAYFORMERS.
>>
>>87118728
What works in a book doesn't necessarily work in a visual medium. Like it might be better if you dissect it and find out some symbolism but it's not immediately scary and memorable.

>why does this monster masquerading as a clown look like a monster masquerading as a clown

First of all, there is no innocence to Pennywise outside of the first encounter with George. Second, the form fitting outfit works much better for the actor playing Pennywise who's a 6'4" lanky dude as oppose to a 5'9" average joe. Finally, Curry wasn't scary in the slightest unless you were under the age of 10, most of the time he was a doing a literal comedy act as Pennywise.

You can argue about 2017 Pennywise looking to threatening in all the promo images with the chin-down eyes-up meme but that's just it.

Really? I think Pennywise's design is much more memorable with it's form-fitting outfit and anachronistic aesthetic. For years now we've had evil clowns in media that are always using the generic party design so it's good the costume designers went in a completely different direction.
>>
>>87119209
I also think it makes him seem much more 'otherworldly' because who the hell sees a clown that looks like it came out of the 19th century just walking around anymore outside of some Opera or French shit

The Pennywise actor said a lot of that footage is unusable because he wouldn't stop losing himself into the character and going off the script. Apparently he doesn't think the movie was edgy enough so he grabbed a boy by the ankles and spun the little faggot around in circles while shouting about how IT needs to kill 2 Jew rats for every cocksucking homo that infests America.

Because the spider is in it, Beverly's father coming back as he shouts sexual perversive stuff at her in a demonic voice, a head in a fridge, the library scene, the bully breaking out of prison and trying to find the gang to kill them all but instead he is haunted by Pennywise.

Need I say more? If done right second movie will be just as good.

The Sewers (IT Novel only)

When the Losers' travel into the sewer with the intent of destroying It, they momentarily find themselves hopelessly trapped. As the boys start to panic, Beverly comes up with the idea of having sex with the others in order to calm them down, as a result the other Losers take turns having sex with her. Because King didn't wish this to be viewed as a lewd scene, the narrative explicitly states that the act of intimacy with each of the boys' helps to further strengthen their friendship; and Beverly only experiences orgasm while having intercourse with Bill Denbrough and Ben Hanscom.

Remember that movie studios have noticed how important critical reception is and will hold early screenings with people who have given great reviews to similar movies in the past in order to get a good tomatoes score. Then the movie comes out and regular reviewers can post their review resulting in the score dropping like a lead balloon.

Anabelle: creation having an advance screening that conveniently had been packed with reviewers who gave the first movie and conjuring two a 7/10 or above while all other reviewers had to wait for the movie to come out to post the review compared to the advance screening people whose embargo was two weeks earlier is a good example of this in practice.

In the novel, the werewolf was much more wolf like, and Richie saw it in the basement of the house on niebolt street. The mummy was seen by Ben on the frozen ice of the canal. Stan Uris saw the dead kids in the old Stand Pipe, who's hands were smooth from erosion.

When Richie saw the werewolf, Bill was with him, who saw the Clown instead. And when the Losers go to face IT in the house on neibolt street, it struggles to take a form until Richie yells that it's the wolf, and then they all thought of the werewolf and thats what it became.

Maybe when he was a kid he fucked a classmate or something. It always bothered me that the TV series made Eddie a virgin, instead of just making him fuck the obese stand in for his mother.

Belch is the one on the far right with Patrick on the far left. As to why they changed the time period to the late 80s from the late 50s there's alot of reasons
>distances this adaption from the old miniseries
>the kids in the 80s would be adults 30 years later in modern day
>the original book took place in the modern day when the losers returned to derry
>80s aesthetic has been popular for years now

gangly emo kid on the left is patrick hockstetter

they changed the time period to be more marketable. the monsters and pop culture of the 50s wont sell as much as late 80s nostalgia, and definitely not as much when they make IT part 2 and set it in modern times

Stephen King set the kid part of the book in the '50s because that's when he was a kid.
The writers of the movie set it in the '80s because that's when they were kids.

>belch is a tall lanklet at 12 years old in the book
>Patrick is a chubby kid in the book

they got them backwards

Technically Patrick doesn't even hang with Henry's gang until later, when Henry is getting more fucked up. I think that is supposed to be Victor Criss, who looked like darker Italian/Spanish or something in the book. I think, it's been a long time since I read it.

Eh, I read IT when I was a kid in the 90's, was born in the 80's, so for me I don't want it to change I guess. I like that setting. King is best when he's writing about childhood shit in the 50's I find. Anything that takes place in more modern times isn't too good. That recent novel Revival was good, but that took place in the past, up to modern times.

Setting it in 89 isn't the end of the world, but I wonder if we are gonna have a scene with a nintendo, or when they are adults it's gonna be all fucking cellphone shit.

In the end I'm going to try to go in with no expectations, but after hearing all the changes to the story, the setting, all that shit, it's getting really hard.

The original movie and the Novel just really have an image of the settings and the characters
