Casino is the best crime film ever and better than Godfather I/II. Discuss.
>>
>>87082532
Casino is a masterpiece but nothing can ever compete with the perfection of film that is Godfather 1/2. Even people who haven't seen it can watch it today and it's just as good as 40 years ago. It hasn't aged a day.
>>
It's not even better than Goodfellas or Donnie Brasco.
>>
>>87082532
Casino is great but hampered by a weak title
>>
>>87082532
Casino is incredible but you're smoking crack if you think it's better than godfather 1 and 2 or goodfellas.
>>
>>87083168
Goodfellas might even be better than the Godfather
>>
The Italian wedding at the start takes years to end
>>
>>87083243
It is
Godfather was great but it was a wankfest for Sicilians-Americans. Goodfellas was able to make a true story look amazing.
>>
>>87082609
awful post and a pleb opinion mentioning Goodfellas to boot.
Casino is a masterpiece of photography and Scorsese really outdid himself and he hasn't done anything better since, every scene is great.
Obviously like all great films it has a flaw with too much narration, however I would call it small problem.
If I really were to compare it to Goodfellas, I would say latter really spirals off to a complete mess of an ending desu; whereas Casino just hits the message abit too hard, but has one of the most shocking film deaths
>>
>>87083315
The part where the bride brags about the size of her husband upsets me
>>
>>87082532
Casino is great but so is harry potter and the deathly hallows part 1
>>
>>87082597
>>87082597
You can watch it today because it makes the subject comfy.

Scorch doesn't allow that. Creepy at every turn.
>>
>>87083336
>>87083243
these are so different that it's really hard to compare the movies
goodfellas is scorcese as fuck, casino is more deliberate and slow-paced, reminds me of godfather much more. those are all great in their own merits, goodfellas is the most entertaining out of the three in my opinion.

First Godfather movie also makes me feel extremely nostalgic for some reason. I've read somewhere that it is stylistically designed to be that way and you can't undo that, but I'm pretty sure it's from some shitty clickbait article. I'd like other anons from /tv/ to comment on this
>>
>>87083426
Godfather 1 is insanely rewatchable for me. For Godfather 2 I only like to rewatch the young Vito Corleone scenes now

You're just a fuckwit you can't cope with the terms that Goodfellas is superior

>>87083426
Goodfellas was not only a superior film, but it was a film about the crime career Henry Hill, arguably a biopic with supreme acting from DeNiro, Pesci, and Liotta. This work was Scorcese's magnum opus

Godfather was nothing short of an adaptation of a book from the '60s. Shit, even Frank Sinatra knew it wasn't good. Its like you plebs forgot that its a trilogy with only one good movie, and I'm talking about Part II where Pacino steals the show and carries the tired ass story
>>
>>87083582

awful.

so nice knowing I won an argument for everyone to see :-)
>>
>>87083243

I agree with this opinion. Goodfellas is a long movie but the time flies pretty quick. Godfather is good but the pacing is atrocious and the story isn't nearly as interesting.
>>
>>87083600
>Shit, even Frank Sinatra knew it wasn't good.
probably because there is a character modeled after him who they take a huge shit on in the movie

No I'm not the other dude, first post this thread you're just that transparent. Please be retarded somewhere else already.

>Goodfellas is better than Godfather
jesus christ

the godfather movies are the most overrated movies in existence.

1.The departed
2.Casino
3.Goodfellas
4 Wolf of wall street
5 8 heads in a duffle bag.
>>
>>87083564
Same, it's probably because of the setting but I didn't really enjoy godfather 2 that much. You know that stupid feeling like when you look at the cinematography, characters, script and you know it's objectively a good movie that you enjoy and never really come back to. I think Godfather 1 is just a super comfy movie. There is a feeling of big family, and, you know, it's kinda relatable because one probably experienced a family gathering in childhood. The setting, too, it just feels better, Sicily and New York both feel extremely comfy and I can't say the same about Las Vegas where majority of Godfather 2 takes place. I've been there, it's hot as fuck.
>>
I honestly don't see what's so great about Godfather I.
>>
>>87083767
to put it politely, this sentence says alot about your opinion. Please just watch it again.

I also really disliked yellow piss color palette in Godfather 2. Godfather 1 has this in some indoor scenes with that brown-yellowish filter but overall colors in this movie are very rich and differ from scene to scene, which is something I really enjoyed
>>
>>87083798
>>87083762

What's your favorite scene from Godfather I? It's tough for me but it's probably the hospital scene
>>
>>87083841
probably the same. Haven't watched it yet this year so all this discussion is probably going to make me watch it tonight.
>Michael telling the priest to put his collar up and put hands in pocket
>realising the copper was bent
>visual storytelling Michael realising theyre coming and moves Vito
pretty good scene desu. Kinda shows Michael made his decision then to be part of the business
>>
>>87083633
Ginger is a stupid whore who uses drugs and cheating as way to piss of Rothstein.
Pesci's character in Goodfellas is far superior and if you think otherwise than you are actually a plebian
Casino had plotholes that didn't follow the original story (The real-life Santoro brothers, Anthony and Michael Spilotro, weren't killed in a cornfield, but in an Illinois basement, where they'd gone believing Michael was going to be inducted into the Mafia)

If you want your petty argument to be heard, give us a reason why Goodfellas is worse than Casino, I'll wait
>>
>>87083905
Aha you really do need to rewatch it. He wasn't the priest he was the baker!
>>
>>87083940
>Ginger is a stupid whore who uses drugs and cheating as way to piss of Rothstein.
you really shouldn't have started with this sentence as it sums you up perfectly. I cannot understand how hating that character makes the movie bad

Casino has horrible pacing at the beginning until it slows down and the drama starts. Still 10/10 kino though because outside of the first 20 minutes, it's GOAT.
>>
>>87083841
not sure really, like you said it's pretty tough to pick. It's consistently good and the major strength of the movie is how it works as a whole. Most scenes here aren't really self-contained and only work in the narrative of the movie itself. not sure how to explain, but if you take the pieces out it will look very different than say goodfellas, which is a very scorsese-ish movie. in goodfellas scenes are much more loosely connected, sometimes his movies feel like a collection of clips with fun action with fun music overlay. I don't mean it as a criticism - scorsese can make it work very well, and he usually does. you can take a scene from goodfellas, put it on youtube and it will work much better than in the case with godfather. And it's not just about the pacing - not sure, really. Guess Godfather feels more like a book than a movie
>>
>>87083984
It uses that as a way to progress the story dipshit, did you actually watch the movie?
>>
>>87084003
my post is probably a disjointed mess, but what I meant is that goodfellas is more like a collection of scenes connected with a narrative. Sure, there are some scenes that are crucial to the plot but it feels to me that you can cut some scenes out of this film and it will feel pretty much the same. if you cut any scene from Godfather it will totally fuck it up

Casino is fucking shit.

A quick rundown of Ginger's pathetic storyline that really turns a 10/10 movie into a 7/10 shitstorm

Sam meets and falls in love with a hustler and former prostitute, Ginger McKenna. They conceive a daughter and marry, but their marriage is proven difficult by Ginger's covetousness and love for her manipulative former boyfriend, con artist-turned pimp Lester Diamond, who is ordered beaten severely by Sam and Nicky after they catch him conning Ginger out of some money. Ginger subsequently turns to alcohol. Sam eventually divorces Ginger, tired of her alcoholism. She then kidnaps their daughter, Amy, taking her to Los Angeles, and plans to flee to Europe with Lester.

What kind of fucking stupid story arc is that?
>>
>>87084027
>the movie is shit because I didn't like an antagonistic character
you sound like a child

A Most Violent Year.
>>
>>87084160
it's not the worst one, really. that's a constant downward spiral.
what I don't get is why protag even bothered with her at all. Why did he give her control over money? It's a pretty long time since I last watched Casino but I remember being so fucking angry at the main character. It never felt to me that he had any reason to deal with her bullshit constantly and give her so much control over his financial security.

>what I don't get is why protag even bothered with her at all. Why did he give her control over money?
Sam was weak. He was middle aged and wanted a family. Picked the wrong wife (considerably)
>>
>>87084217
He married a whore. Life lessons learned
>>
Godfather 3 is underrated

>Casino is the best crime film ever and better than Godfather I/II. Discuss.

why did Scorsese cheap out on practical effects for the execution near the end???

the scene with the silenced pistols:

>no muzzle flash
>no ejected casings
>no broken glass
>no blood

just a few clicks and one puff of smoke. like they expected to finish the scene later, but didn't bother for some reason.
