I watched 10 episodes of the new season and I honestly dont know what to think of it. Pretty cool experience overall, it kinda lost its Twin Peaks vibe and it's more surreal in the same vein Lynch's newer films are since some of the odd things that occur are too overwhelming at times
>>
>>87048282
I fucking hate you
>>
>>87048220
The return is good. I don't know about any "remakes" though.

>some of the odd things that occur are too overwhelming at times
Other than episode 8 and the start of episode 3, what other things have been very surreal?
>>
>>87049179
You're right, those were the only moments that where over the top surreal but almost every scene with Dougie is absurd to some extrent
>>
>>87049428

It's not a remake but really a season 3.

If you liked the original series and/or are a fan of Lynch's work in general, watch it.
>>
>>87049539
>If you liked the original series
That's an odd thing to say, given that it's nothing like the original series. You're setting people up for disappointment.
>>
It's a sequel and it's better than first two seasons.
>>
>>87048220
As impossible as it seems to say, Lynch is changing television now almost to the same degree as he did in 1990.
>>
>>87049614

I wouldn't say so. It continues the story in a way probably most people who were invested in the first two seasons and the movie can appreciate. It still has an idiosyncratic balance of humor, drama and horror and it's still a lot of the same characters.

You can argue that is has more in common with the Lost Highway/Mulholland Drive/Inland Empire trilogy stilistically but thematically it's very different.
>>
>>87049998
I think that the main difference is that it does not have that warm cozy feel of the original series.

I watched it, and it is fairly comfy yet not even close to the original series's comfyness imo.
Also every plotline in the original was comfy (even James one), unlike in this sequel/season.

Where's your evidence?
>>
>>87050279
I'm glad lynch went to great lengths to distance the return from the original series. To try and keep the same warm and fuzzy tone over 25 years later would be pretty misguided, especially when FWWM has proven itself to be incredibly significant to the style, feel and world of the new series. There's too many pseudo-sequels lately which are more like soft reboots that do nothing but pay homage to the old, rather than standing on its own merits. Despite its similarities to lynch's other works, I don't think I've ever seen anything like the return on TV before in my lifetime, it really feels like a labour of love. For that I'd sacrifice comfiness any day of the week.
>>

But back in 1990 people actually watched his show.

The Return is rather different to FWWM though

Also, check this captcha, he's back
>>
>>87050686
Both are considerably darker and more cinematic than the first two seasons.

I think the absence of the melodramatic, overused Badalamenti motifs is a big part of that.
>>
>>87050726
It is if you're not a pleb
>>
It starts off excellent, then gets a bit wonky and you're not sure if it's gonna pull through but then it gets good again. Just like the original
>>
>>87050829
That may be true, but they really don't have the same style, feel and world. FWWM is very different to the new series.
Not that that has to be a bad thing, but I don't think they're particularly comparable. Certainly not after the first half an hour.
>>
>>87050686
its certainly different, but that's probably because The Return blends the original series and the film with other thematic/stylistic choices a la Eraserhead, Mullholland Drive and even his art in general.

for example, here is a video of david making quinoa and telling a story about frog moths at least 3 years before they appeared in episode 8 of the return

>>
>>87050833
So you mean Lynch hasn't actually changed television at all, at the moment, and you're talking straight out of your ass.
Did you retweet Jay Bauman's "restored my faith in cinema" tweet?
>>
>>87050844
Yeah, this, though I'd say that when it gets wonky it does so over lynchian terms, so it's never quite bad. Overall the cool moments far surpass the dull ones
>>
>>87050949

Yes. It lingers on scenes longer than the original but I would say it has the feel of the original series without being a rehash. It's a very unique revival instead of being "Who killed Laura Palmer 2.0?" It also kicks up the horror and surreal elements a ton, which for me is great because I enjoyed that stuff a lot in the original.
>>
>>87051726

Which side are you erring on as of now?

Other than "Got a light?" and the glass box (which wasn't scary at all, no matter what /tpg/ says) what other horror stuff is there.

8) anacin

Are you joking? Just because it doesn't scare you (no movie has ever really scared me) doesn't mean it isn't horror. How was Bad Cooper's journey into the convenience store/hotel not horror? At the very least it is spooky if you want to be pedantic about the word horror.

Being this shortminded.
There are things beyond trends m8, ACTUAL THINGS, ACTUAL ART, ameritards can't see past this and don't deserve their artists.
Can't be everything because of money and trends m8, how much money did Showcase made with this? Compared with showrunner shit such as the past three seasons of GoT, not much. There's been 10 years of Lynch not directing because he can't get money, because his films have no revenue so no one wants to invest in them.
It is of course quite radical what he did with his own narrative, how he reclaimed it, how he took a much loved mediatic phenomena and 25 years later turned it upside down, shitting on fanbois expectations, shitting on TV's unspoken rules and just lynching plebs all around :^)
>>

That's funny, because /tpg/ are loving The Return purely because it's Lynch's work - possibly his last.
None of them actually saw Lynch's work in cinemas, so this is the best they can hope for.
>>
>>87049428
The Dougie scenes are the closest thing to S1 and S2 in the show outside of the actual scenes in Twin Peaks.

>>87060414
/tpg/ isn't one person and the Return is infinitely more Lynchian than Season 1 and 2. You know. The part of Lynch's work that makes any of it stand out. If you cut out the Red Room business, made Cooper a little bit less autistic (not trying to fire anyone up with this choice of word; he legitimately acts autistic) and took Lynch's name off of it you'd have a completely sterile soap opera that no one would pay attention to.
>>
>>87060780
Next you'll pretend Blue Velvet isn't Lynchian, because it doesn't have supernatural elements
