Given the way the scene unfolded you wouldn't have many options. He wasn't just a nobody like the guy Ned executed in the first episode, he was technically lord of the Vale. If Sansa and Arya brought Baelish to the chopping block under the guise of executing Arya alone and turning the tables on him, it wouldn't have been as impactful because then everyone would be like "hey have you seen Petyr, I need to ask him something about the Vale soldiers." and the girls would be like "uhhhhhhh".

They needed to out him in front of everyone and him begging for his life only made the situation worse because it implied guilt. if he went down like "you're wrong." and they executed him then everyone would be like "hey uhhh maybe he was innocent?"

I know you know GoT is a drama so they obviously went with the most dramatic possible way of doing it.

I'm pretty sure that is why they killed him so quickly. Someone in the book says the longer you talk with Littlefinger the more he gets what he wants. If they let him start talking he probably wouldnt get himself out of being killed but it he could have complicated things.

At the very least he could have sued for trial by combat and if they him it would have gone down as 'Starks refuse the Lord of the Veil an honorable trial, execute him and attempt to assume control of his holdings' and made them look very bad. Catching him off guard with the autism and not letting him regain his footing is the only way to beat someone like Littlefinger.

If he knows everything he should have known that Jon was a Targ. But if he doesn't know everything then there are hard limits on his powers: he can only know the things he has time to learn AKA however long needs to be spent hearing or experiencing a memory.

This isn't me defending Arya and Sansa, I don't think Ned intended for them to rule Winterfell and the Stark name, he had no idea Robb would die and Bran would become a crippled Jedi.
