>It's a "federation courts are retarded" episode

Worf did absolutely nothing wrong. Sisko bitching him out over a combat situation that was entirely unforseeable was hilariously stupid.

Also the fact that Starfleet is willing to hand it's officers over to an enemy that attacked humanitarian convoys, let alone their own ships, was ridiculous. That attack should have been an act of war.

Man, the days when audiences would accept literal paint on screen in a live action movie and be like 'sure why not'
>>
>>87018133
Yeah that whole episode really triggered me:
1. Why do civilian transports have cloaks in the first place?
2. Why does anyone think a civilian decloaking in the middle of a battlefield, and being destroyed is somehow Worf's fault?
3. Why doesn't the Federation prosecute the Klingons for war crimes (invading claimed space, attacking civilians, almost starting a war by firing on neutral ships)?
4. Why doesn't O'Brien stick up for his commander, he was a soldier, he should know.
5. Why doesn't Worf get a real lawyer?

It's a fun flick. It caught a decade of shit simply for sitting in Khan's shadow and having some really goofy-ass shit in it, but when viewed in isolation, it's a pretty entertaining movie. Also it has my absolute favourite Kirk moment ever, led into with that subtle little 'fuck this Star Trek shit' shake of the head- "I... HAVE HAD ENOUGH... OF YOU!"

The worst part for me is when Sisko started his "Sisko lecture" that he always does. I can understand federation command thinking there might be grounds for a trial, but someone who has been out in the ass end of space as long as Sisko has?

It's a bullshit shoehorned plot device for no other reason than to allow them to come in and save the day, it was completely unbelievable.
No Sisko was stupid too since he was directly involved in designing weapons to fight off the Borg.
Picard could fight but rarely did and he was never an action hero
>try watching the movie with your phone turned off
Can't rebuke a solid point, the movies plot was condescending and stupid, nothing the Borg did made any sense from the time the choose to go back to, to the tactics in the enterprise to the ENTIRE plot between data and the Queen.

The movie is littered with shitty dialogue and example of poor writing.

So I don't know practically anything about Star Trek, and I was wondering if someone here wouldn't mind answering a couple questions.
So, I've heard of these Romulans, and apparently they're like Roman Vulcans, yes? I saw Nemesis so I know they are an Empire in the Earth sense that they have subject/slave peoples like the mine people, Remeans? My questions is I know they have territory and so does Star Fleet or Star Command or whatever the humans are, and there is a neutral zone between them. How strong militarily are the Romulans compared to Star Fleet, how large is their Empire compared to Human territory? Are the Klingon's an empire and are they strong? Lastly, Star Fleet I hear has members who are protectorates of it's fleet. Is it like a UN and these planets contribute militarily/economically to Star Fleet? is there some over-arching political body who regulates this all?
>>
>its a geordi falls in love episode

pass tbqh
>>
>>87021913
They're strong enough to be a threat but likely not stronger than the Federation except for having cloaking devices on their ships.
The Klingon empire is adjacent to the Federation and the Romulan Star Empire and they are usually depicted as rather strong but not necessarily stronger than the Feds or Romulans.

I could have sworn that in one of the movies they said Klingon's have cloaking technology don't they? Aren't there Klingon's in the Federation like that Worf guy? If the Federation is so powerful then how come they don't have that cloaking technology, like why couldn't they get it from some Klingon's or Vulcans or something?

If the Federation is so powerful then how come they don't have that cloaking technology, like why couldn't they get it from some Klingon's or Vulcans or something?
The Treaty of Algeron states that the Federation could keep part of their inhabited worlds along the neutral zone in exchange for no cloaking technology (or something similar to that effect).
I know it's stupid but cloaking is seen as "deceptive" and we wouldn't want to be that would we?
>>
>>87022279
Who is stupid enough to accept a treaty limiting their capabilities like that when the other power has it? That would be akin to signing a deal to not make nuclear weapons when everyone else knowingly has nuclear weapons. They just let Klingons and Romulans use that, I can't believe this.
>>
>>87022175
>>87022279
There's more that. Any use of cloaking technology was considered an act of war by the federation by the romulan star empire. The romulans gave that tech to klingons or they stole it.

Riker almost started a war wit the Pegasus fiasco.

Sisko wasn't allowed to use the cloak initially outside of the gamma quadrant.

The Federation was always portrayed as fairly pacifistic. Their primary line of defense, Starfleet, is only a part-time military, with exploration being their primary purpose.

Of course it's the same Federation that installed one of its own operatives as the head of the Romulan spy agency, so they're not total pushovers.

Gates McFadden has stated that she was fired from the show for complaining about racism/sexism in some of the scripts (Code of Honor and Angel One were likely among her complaints as other cast members have expressed their displeasure with those episodes as well). According to her, she pissed off one of the writers so he said "either she goes or I go" so she was fired, but apparently there was a significant amount of complaint letters sent in from fans who wanted her back on the show and the cast members themselves wanted her back on, so after the second season they fired that particular writer and rehired her.

Oh now that he feels guilty for murdering those people it would be unethical to punish him for it! We are the federation, it is our responsibility to force our sense of justice on other cultures. Death sentences are wrong no matter how many people a criminal tortures and murders because reasons!

>The first Enterprise scene is like 6 minutes long, and it's literally just Kirk and Scotty riding the shuttle to board it.
That was a bit, much, but I don't mind most of the longer shots in the movie. It had that classic 70s pacing, building the mystery and suspense. They were looking for something that "destroyed" worlds. Some of the later long shots helped to build that feeling of exploration and discovery, in my opinion.

There's really no such thing as a "good" Dr. Crusher episode. Troi was a completely useless and stupid character, but she was nice to look at, and arguably had some interesting plotlines. Beverly had none of that. She was just kind of there and occasionally butted in with some self-righteousness.

I think people also indirectly blame her for Wesley. They just kind of deflect some of their dislike for him onto her.

First Contact was terrible. All the TNG movies except for Generations were horrible. Even Final Frontier had a GOAT McCoy scene that blew away anything the nu-crew could do.

>Why do people rank it so high
Because it was a wonderful love-letter to the franchise. The pacing and visuals were modernised, and there wasn't anything particularly metaphorical or deep about it, but other than that it was as good as anyone could possibly hope for. The casting was excellent, the music was awesome, the themes of friendship were very well-executed, and (besides Nero twiddling his thumbs for decades because of the deleted scenes) was a really solid story.

>and above First Contact?
I loathe the inclusion of a Borg "Queen". The idea of a collected mind without a leader was fucking awesome to me. No voices, just one consciousness. The writers of First Contact have flat-out stated that the only reason the Borg Queen was created was because they found it too hard to write the Borg for a full movie. They didn't bother trying to bring a better writer on-board, they didn't decide to just go with another villain who they were able to write, they just stuck a Queen in there and ruined one of the best alien species in TNG. It's lazy and it pisses me off.
That being said, the film itself was very well-directed and my only real criticism is that the writing could've been better. That's why I still have it in the top 5.

I personally prefer season 7 Tom Paris to most any other character except the EMH.
He's got this lackadaisical attitude to just about everything that occurs. A sort of "enh whatever" until a ship fires on them and then it's back to "friendly fella" routine

Pretty much this and I'm still in awe at how he had the gull to not point out the way the movie was filmed was over the top industry tricks left and right, the aesthetic was absolutely garbage and incredibly bright to the point of wanting to look away from the bridge scenes.. just really hate the way the whole thing looks. the story is fine but if I'm whincing at nearly every turn, it's not a good movie, good script or no

I've never heard of an actor getting praised for being an all around nice guy as much as Bakula has. Which made it extra funny when Braga said that the only time Bakula was ever mean to him was during the final episode of Enterprise. He actually managed to piss off the nicest guy on the set with that episode. Think about that.

>Braga: It was a kind of a slap in the face to the Enterprise actors. I heard it from everybody, it was the only time Scott Bakula was ever mean to me. I regret it.
>>
>>87037371
Not to mention, that crew never had a show like all the previous movies' crews did.

We never saw them evolve over a long period of time and I think that's important for a franchise that came from television like Star Trek.

Braga at least tried his best to create something new but he did have a hand in that finale so at least he's a bigger guy for admitting. You're right, that's a big indicator of it's quality and I've only heard that Trip's actor was the only person who was okay with the finale.
