They exploit the ignorance of others for wealth and status. They perpetuate the same superstitions that had us burning witches and hanging heretics. The illusionist deserves far worse than simple humiliation for their trickery.

Because they use their "power" to scam people out of money who think it's real. Most likely happened to someone close to him. And in the case of "mediums" they either give false hope to grieving people or just say completely untrue things about the dead and misguide people.

Plus I think most people who like watching "psychics" are generally interested if it's bullshit or not, but are easily tricked by simple illusions. Randi just calling them out on lies, it's not like he tricks them. They know what he does and what he's out to prove, they just are usually not smart enough to avoid getting embarrassed by him.
