So I've just been hit with the realisation that since my gf left me I've done nothing but drop out of school, retreat into my house and hardly leave, and cut myself off from any and all IRL social contact, instead deciding to spend all my time with a /who/ tab constantly open while she's likely gone off to be happy, and forgotten about me completely since it happened like 5 months ago while I stay pining over her knowing that I will never be with her again and never be that happy once more.

I want to die, /who/????

also to keep it tangentially DW related, capaldi is great

Clara's accent is called 'Lanky' by us Brits. Most people who grew up in NW England, specifically on the Irish Sea coast have similar accents.

I love the accent personally (my Dad grew up in St. Annes, slightly north of Blackpool, and has the same accent).

No worries at all, that's a noble pursuit and I wouldn't want to interrupt your watch order. Have you seen the tv movie before? I'd guess you probably have, but I've encountered a surprising amount of people who've just never gotten round to it. Ah, yeah. I know the feeling all too well, and it sucks. I wish there was some sort of advice I could give to help remedy the situation for you, but I'm afraid I've never even managed to fully solve the problem for myself. All I can say is that hopefully one day they'll come to their senses and appreciate you and your interests that bit more and... if they don't, well, I'm very certain you'll find someone else out there who will. Not that I'm suggesting you cut ties with your current friends, but all the same, you deserve to be surrounded by people who appreciate you.

Edge, why 10th is such a cringe in series 3? I know he misses Rose badly, but he's such a dick it's hard to watch.

I am here, watching him and asking "why???".

Also it's really funny how Ten/Simm seems to be more hit and miss compared to 12/Missy. I really like the friendship vibe and not the dominatrix/abusive/whatever the hell that was bullshit.

Also Edge, please do tell me, do you think 10/SimmMaster is a sexual relationship?

12/Missy is comfy, she's great fun to watch.

I dunno about 10/Simm, Davies and his ~GAY AGENDA~ amirite? No but seriously 10 seemed like he was pretty down to get pegged by the Master all the fucking time, he was whipped. Even after going on a murdering rampage 10 invited him into the TARDIS. Twice.

This is a couple of years old but pretty good.
It's not like there have been any memorable Doctor Who audios in the meantime.
>>
>>87010911
That's a good list. It's also worth branching out to other radio dramas as well, outside of Big Finish, and even outside of Doctor Who. Neverwhere, Good Omens, and the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (fun fact, the radio series is the original, before the books) are the best audio dramas the BBC have produced imho.
>>
>>87011792

>>>/his/3302695

Different anon. BBC LOTR was legendary before film adaptations, also literally massive in era of physical media. Asimov Foundation is good too, its on Archive.org.

Tbh Radio 4 (sometimes 3) churn out an endless amount of good content. I like the adaptations they did of Pepys Diaries.
>>
>>87012150
Keep in mind my only real source for this is basically BBC Radio 4, my reccomendations would be any of the adaptations of something by Wally K Daly or Ray Bradbury, if you like sci fi a lot, Mort by Terry Pratchett is pretty good also but that's just Terry Pratchett in general.

Personally, I love easy listening, usually sitcoms, about 20 mins long. There's one called "Cabin Pressure" that I absolutely love. Sometimes BBC will put out something with Big name actors in it, and that usually means the SFX and sound quality will be fantastic, though that doesn't automatically make the thing good.

There's also some great comedy sketch shows, like "That Mitchell and Webb Sound", and a Monty Python-esque one called "I'm sorry I'll read that again" but that one is incredibly absurd
>>
>>87012714
>There's one called "Cabin Pressure" that I absolutely love.
That was the first full radio show I listened to, and it's spectacularly funny. Definitely worth a listen for those who haven't heard it before.

>>
So it just occoured to me that the reason ten acts so off from Journeys end up until end of time part 2 is because when he regenerated in journeys end, his face may have changed but his attitude shifted just a little as well as the fact that that vetsion of the doctor experienced regeneration but kept the same face (a near death experience kind of)
>>
>>87013831
>>87013848
Well, no, I was exaggerating. But I mean, is it worth listening to most main range audios or just sticking to the recommended ones?
>>
>>87013907

>>

>>87012267
Wanderer, did you do this?

Because it's annoying that this was just dropped on the his board, without the context of:

1) This is during the Thames Frost Fair, where races you wouldn't usually mix and mingle came together.

2) The 12th Doctor is a flippant sarcastic alien. He's intentionally being a little gruff.
>>
>>87008277
The best part about this is that in Trust Me, when she says that line the person she's talking to reacts along the lines of: "What? Ohh, is this because you're a woman? You're just as good as any man."

plus it makes a good point that London was incredibly diverse compared to most cities in that time period. When Regency London is usually depicted, it is completely white. Well, no, but there's a lot of straight guys that watch the show as well, so if attraction was the only reason people watch it, they'd be very much accounted for.

Anyways, I don't think its a case of Doctor Who having a disproportionately high LGBT audience, just that it's a very popular show and it's inevitable that there'll be diversity amongst those who watch it. It is surprising that so many people who've worked on the show in fairly high-up positions are gay guys, but I think that's just sheer coincidence rather than anything else.

Besides, the star of the show is essentially just an omnisexual*, genderfluid** individual who's accepting of people from all walks of life, so it makes sense that LGBT people might have a particular affinity with it that they might not with other shows.

*Or asexual, depending on the regeneration.
**In part because of regeneration, but also because of things like Twelve's statements in WEAT, or Eight's in the novels where he pretty much definitively states that he doesn't consider himself as a man or a woman - though the latter sort of agender thing might be exclusive to that regeneration, the Doctor definitely has a fairly flexible view on gender in general.

I guess, overall, it's an interesting phenomenon, but not a surprising one.

There's also the idea of the Doctor as the "underdog." He helps represents the underserved, and and sticks up for the downtrodden.

I don't know if there's really a high proportion of gay viewers compared to your average show, but gay men are significantly represented in the writing and production history starting from somewhere in the 80s. The wave of fandom that carried the show into the wilderness years had a lot of gays in it.

As far as the classic show goes, the lack of the Doctor's participation in any sexual activities maybe meant he stood out from all the overtly straight characters on TV. Being the closeted kid who's just "not sexual" or "above all that" around all their male friends is an experience a fair few gay men probably relate to.
Then you have the theatricality, colour and campness of the show, being almost as much about the art of the performers and designers (and having fun being a bit odd) as it is about the scary aliens.

Yeah, exactly. That one quote from Robot of Sherwood pretty much sums the Doctor up, in that regard:
>Is it so hard to credit? That a man born into wealth and privilege should find the plight of the oppressed and weak too much to bear... until one night, he is moved to steal a TARDIS? Fly among the stars, fighting the good fight?
Of course, even in that society of "wealth and privilege," he was bit of an underdog, so his willingness to help is very much empathetic. So, really, his popularity amongst marginalised groups shouldn't be surprising so much as expected.
>>
>>87016247
>Besides, the star of the show is essentially just an omnisexual*, genderfluid** individual who's accepting of people from all walks of life, so it makes sense that LGBT people might have a particular affinity with it that they might not with other shows.
I read something this guy said about doctor who, that in the 70s and 80s there were a lot of shows where the hero gets the girl, and a lot of romance subplots. Whereas in Doctor Who, there were a man and a woman with a fairly platonic relationship just getting on with their adventures. He said that, as a gay man, the platonic relationships were the big draw for him.

I'm not suggesting that it's the big reason why there's a lot of gay men who like the show, but it certainly seems like a possible reason, based on this one person's experience
>>
>>87016924
I think the idea of "the Doctor as underdog" is a slightly recent one. Although I do like the idea that "the Doctor failed all his classes at the Academy" , the First Doctor's character arc works slightly better if he was always privileged, maybe even a royal. (Also, there's an implication the Doctor failed his classes because he prefers experiential learning to book learning.)

Trying to make him "as an orphan" or "half-human" as a reason for his caring ignores the beauty--he didn't have a reason to care. Barbara taught him to care, and so he does.

>>87017032
There's also the fact that the "no hanky-panky" rules led to the Doctor only touching his male companion.

There's never gonna be one reason above all - it'll be a big mix of different things that generates the appeal for certain demographics, and a lot of the draw would almost be subconscious for some. In the sense that they never really actively acknowledge "oh, I like this show because _____" but they intuitively just... relate to it, or enjoy it, for certain specific reasons.

In terms of sexuality, for those that pay particular attention to those aspects of characters - either consciously or otherwise - I do think the Doctor's apparent asexuality in the Classic era would've been refreshing to audiences who couldn't exactly relate to the whole "hero gets the girl" aspect of things, or didn't quite enjoy it. It was a show that very much celebrated love in a way that a lot of other forms of media didn't (and even in this day and age, it's not common enough to find movies or shows that do that without it devolving into romance in some form) and didn't belittle platonic bonds or regard them as less than romantic ones.

Of course, new!who also does this too, but with the introduction of romance, it almost became an expectation that any deeply platonic love between the Doctor and the companion actually took the form of something different. Not that that's a bad thing, and if people want that then that's alright and fair enough, and I appreciate immensely how the whole Clara thing was left somewhat ambiguous (since that's the perfect example of a Doctor/companion relationship being interpreted in two different ways)... but, you know, the core of the show is still friendship, in many ways. That's something that's just universally appealing - it doesn't serve to inadvertently alienate any part of the audience, and it allows the concept of love to be explored beyond the confines of the neat little boxes it often gets placed in. It's nice, I enjoy it.

>I think the idea of "the Doctor as underdog" is a slightly recent one.
You're right enough, actually, now that I think about it. I was thinking too much about new!who's take on it all, really. Though an underdog doesn't necessarily mean one not born into privilege, and I'd say the Doctor's penchant for trouble alienated him enough from Time Lord society as a whole that he could be classified as one even despite living a life of wealth and power - if one is to believe he did just that. Accounts of his early life are so mixed up and all over the place at times, it's really just up to interpretation.

And I've said it before on here, but I agree with the idea of the whole "half-human" (and, indeed, orphan) stuff detracting from what makes the Doctor's motivations so... inspiring, almost. He's an individual who really should have no reason to care - born and raised in a society that teaches him to be passive, to turn a blind eye to those less fortunate, and pay no heed to terrible things that they had it within themselves to change. But then he goes out into this vast universe, and he meets all these strange, determined people and he sees impossible, dangerous things and he realises that everything he's been taught to believe is not, in fact, the indomitable truth of the universe, and that the power he harnesses can be used to help rather than merely observe. So he uses it for exactly that, and the rest is very much history.

Making him able to truly relate to those he saves detracts from the significance of the fact that he saves them at all - simply by giving him a reason to. It's much more wonderful, it's much more beautiful, and it's much more inspiring, to believe that he helps not for ultimately selfish reasons, but rather because it's just the right thing to do.
>>
>>87018401
(Not that saving one's own is selfish, because it's still saving people. But it's an action that arises from the perception that one's self is part of a greater whole that must be protected. It's much more interesting to me to believe that the Doctor is an outsider, with absolutely no real reason to care about the worlds out there that are in peril, and yet he continually puts himself at great risk to help them anyway. Sorry, okay, that was all I wanted to add. I'll shut up now.)

WHAT IS THIS SHIIIIIIIIIT
>>
>>87018401
>>87018556

YES! You get it.

Although there are good stories to tell about the Doctor being half-human (I once read a story where the Time's Champion-era Seven meets his human mother for tea, and reflects what his enemies would think of it), it's just better if he has no relation to the people he's saving.

Make him half-human, and you almost miss the point. Make him under-privileged from the start, and you almost miss the point. Yes, the Doctor was always a little different from other Time Lords (he is a renegade, after all), but if you give him a "reason to care", you miss the point.

He doesn't have a reason, besides good decency.
>>
>>87001829
you sound a lot like my best friend right now
he started antidepressants a couple weeks ago and now he just wants to be alone to think about his problems himself, as opposed to talking to me about everything so it's a huge change
I've been sending him messages every couple days just to ask how he's going just so he knows I'm still thinking of him, usually he just responds with something about how he doesn't feel like talking but this last week I haven't got a single response from him
I can ask his sister how he's going at the moment just to make sure he's not back in a psych ward or anything drastic like that, but besides that I'm not really sure what I can do. I don't know if it's psychologically healthy for him to be cutting himself off from everyone like this, and it's almost definitely a side effect of the meds he's taking - so I don't know if it's something he should just accept or if he should be trying to fight what he feels like and still talk to people. I don't know if it's a good idea to tell him that either

Exactly! Nice to see someone else on the same wavelength. The whole "half-human" concept is good, like you say, to explore in some stories, and even interesting to allude to, but I far prefer that it's always left ambiguous. As much as it's charming to think that we as "lowly" humans would have some sort of link to the Doctor in that way, it really does detract from that sort of... deeper connection, in which he loves humanity not because he's tied to it, but because there is absolute truth in all those times he waxes poetic about the wonder of us all. It's just a much sweeter thing on the whole when it's approached from that angle, and drives home the point that the Doctor is just a good person through and through.

Jokes aside, I don't mind this. >it makes sense why you like Eighth Doctor so much
I'm very predictable once my views of the character are laid out. Since all that stuff up there is a big part of what makes the Doctor so fascinating for me... Yeah, Eight is an unsurprising favourite to have, I suppose. Plus, he's really, really cute!

>What's your opinion on the Twelfth Doctor?
I really love Twelve, though I'm rather biased towards him because he's Scottish (maybe also why I have such a soft spot for Seven) and from round about the same area as me, so I'm morally obligated to like him. His care for humanity - or, just anyone in general - takes a very different form from, say, Eight, because he's far from outwardly enthusiastic about it all. He can be abrasive and dismissive, a little bit grumpy, but there's undoubtedly a heart of gold there. And for all that he almost bottles all that care up, and at times seems to hide it away under a certain amount of bluster, when it shines through, it's almost blinding in its intensity. Oh, god, this is all terribly poetic sounding. You see it with how full-on he gets about Clara in S9 and all, though. Of course, that's all the care concentrated on one person, but it shows pretty well just how much he cares and how strongly. I really enjoy Twelve, though, and I think he was a lovely take on the character for sure.

I could go on, but I'm off to go watch the tv movie. Maybe I'll expand on this later. Or probably not.

8's audios are fantastic because there actually is a sustained throughline and character arc through them. It gets battered and mucked around with and isn't always handled well, but there's a proper attempt at a linear progression of the character.

All of the books she's previously appeared in have been out of print for ages, so there's no worry that a kid who likes a child-friendly Kadiatu book would suddenly pick up Transit. And it's not unheard of to put Doctor Who characters from one demographic to another, like when Sarah Jane starred in those audios that were darker in comparison to her prior show appearances, only to bounce back into lighter fare with SJA.

Maybe you saw the original reply, but the gist of it was that I hope everything goes smoothly for you. I can't even begin to imagine the amount of work involved.

>hen Eccleston started in 2005 I spent so long musing how the regeneration could have went between the two.
I bet the last thing you'd be expecting was a top secret regeneration between the two. What was your reaction to the War Doctor? I actually didn't know much about Eight at the time he was revealed, so I didn't have the conflicting feelings about Hurt's Doctor that I do now. As much as I enjoyed him in the role, I can't shake the feeling of disappointment that McGann never got more than just a minisode, when he originally ought to have been in the 50th. (Though, to be fair, I am still extremely grateful for the minisode - the darkest possible timeline would involve it never getting made at all. I'm so thankful that McGann agreed to it.)

>>87035355
Nooo, anon, don't say that! There's always a chance someone'll stream it again another day. I'm always up for watching the tv movie myself - I've seen it a few times already, and most of those rewatches were pretty recently. I always enjoy it, and it's good fun to watch with others. There were only about four or five of us in the stream, so there's still plenty on /who/ that might not have seen it in a while.
>>
>>87035542
lol you do sound tired! it's all good, and thank you.

I'm not a fan of the War Doctor. John Hurt's a legend, and the 50th was good, but I don't like the concept or even think it makes much sense.

>WarDoc used as a older 'Classic' style Doctor to comment on the NewWho Doctors (e.g. him asking if the 'kissing' happens a lot later in the 50th when 10 gets married) makes no sense because War is post-8, and 8 is the one who started all the 'kissing' business. The Classic Doctors ended with 7, 8 was his own thing, and War isn't an era at all (this is why it annoys me to see him put between 8 and 9 on pictures, yes he literally comes between them, but he did not exist until 2013, a 2013 Doctor between a 1996 one and a 2005 one breaks the whole idea of Doctors and their eras, it awkwardly retrofits things. 8's pre-2013 audios were written with the expectation he'd get to the Time War. RTD originally offered a comic to depict an 8-to-9 regeneration, 9/10/11 were all written with the idea that 8 went to 9, until 2013. There's nothing wrong with a retcon, nothing at all, Doctor Who is built on retcons, but I think there's something annoying about acting like a retcon was there all along, I dislike Season 6B for similar reasons)

A while ago me and another anon had an interesting chat on what didn't work with the War Doctor, I'm not gonna repeat it all here but it starts here if anyone's interested https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/85721688/#85726914

This is another good discussing, focusing more on why 8 could have worked instead of War https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/86127289/#86134137

When you get around to 8's audios, you'll see certain story decisions being made that theoretically could have been to set 8 up as the Doctor who ended the Time War (some argue with me on this, will be interesting to hear your thoughts when you get up to them). Of course they had to rethink things after Night of the Doctor. At least that was GOAT.

actually kill me. genuinely end my life.

I mean, thank you a bunch for digging those up again because I forgot what threads they were in and I wanted to revisit those discussions, but you have no idea how hard I'm laughing at myself right now. Ugh, I feel like an ass as well, you spent time grabbing those links. I'm really terribly sorry.

As for the audios stuff, from what little I know about the latter half of his character development in those, I do agree with you already about it all paving the way for him becoming the Doctor to end the war. Of course, that's coming from the perspective of someone who hasn't actually listened to them all yet, so maybe my thoughts could change, but I doubt by much. I do hope that Eight's Time War audios will be good - it'd be a damn shame to finally, properly get to see (or, well, hear) Eight in that setting and have it fall flat like it kinda did with the War Doctor.

>>87035919
I'm so sorry to hear that, anon. I wish there was something I could do to make you feel at all better. At the very least, I can offer a shoulder to lean on and someone to talk to. I know very well how much loneliness can hurt, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. If you ever want someone to chat with, whatever it may be about, you know where to find me - just look for the McGann pics, because it'll usually be me.

ahahahahahahah that's hilarious! Well, I agree with your articulate opinions as much now as I did then!

>Ugh, I feel like an ass as well, you spent time grabbing those links
It's actually really easy when you trip, all I had to do was filter by my tripcode and "war doctor" and they were right there

>I do hope that Eight's Time War audios will be good
Even though I didn't like 8's last audio series (Doom Coalition), and they're a prequel to a series I hated (WarDoc), and I'm not a huge fan of 8 not fighting at all, I actually think these might be pretty good, the choice of companion is really really cool, and John Dorney (best writer BF currently have) has written 2 of the 4 stories in the first set.

>Starring Paul McGann and Rakhee Thakrar as the Eighth Doctor and Bliss, Nick and Benji can exclusively reveal the four story titles and writers for the first set:
>The Starship of Theseis* by John Dorney,
>Echoes of War by Matt Fitton
>The Conscript by Matt Fitton
>One Life by John Dorney.

*Shouldn't that be Theseus? Clever title either way.
But yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic about these.

>>87035919
I know it's hard and can be awkward but you should be putting yourself out i r l to hang out with new people, you don't deserve to just wallow or only get social interaction online. >You generally have sleeping problems or is this a one-off thing?
Any time I have an extended period of time off uni, I revert to this weird sleeping pattern that essentially turns night into day, and I end up going to sleep when most folks are waking up. I try my best to fix it, but I always gravitate back eventually. I'll be okay once I get back into a regular schedule.

>It's actually really easy when you trip
Oh. I've always wondered how you always have those links to hand so quickly. Makes a lot more sense now.

>I'm not a huge fan of 8 not fighting at all
Same. I fundamentally disagree with anyone who says he's not capable or just straight-up wouldn't. The audios (again, from my limited knowledge of them - feel free to correct me at any time if I'm wrong) sound like they do a relatively good job of setting up for his participation in the war, and the eventual ending of it, to be a logical conclusion of his character arc. That's not even taking into account the characterisation of Eight from the novels, if one were to include that at all.

>Shouldn't that be Theseus? Clever title either way.
Maybe there's a reason it's spelled differently? Or it's just a simple error.

>>87036469
No problem, anon. I understand what you're going through and I know how tough it can be - I'm pretty used to isolation at this point in my life, and regrettably I've grown pretty numb to it, but I know very well how much it can hurt. And it's okay to get a bit scared of speaking to people too, but do what I do and remind yourself that you're far cooler, far cleverer and far more interesting than you think, because if you're anything like me, your brain probably spends a lot of time trying to convince you otherwise. And those people you're trying to speak to will probably be as glad for the company as you are. And if they're not? I guarantee they weren't worth your time anyways. You just gotta stay hopeful until you find the ones who are.

That's why you do activities that already give a pretext for putting people together so it's not so random, like sports or trivia or clubs or whatnot. I empathise with having a difficult transport situation though.

>enable me to dive into a pool of escapism
You know that won't ultimately make you any happier, gotta stick your neck out a bit even if it is awkward or scary. Small steps are fine but you gotta take some steps, just doing more snacks/vidya/toys won't get your life happier. Loads of people love snacks/vidya/toys too, I'm sure you can find some meetups/cons/clubs/board game nights/D&D sessions to join with people also into that stuff.

>>87036733
Yeah whenever I don't have a pressing need to get stuff done in the daylight I find it too easy to flip day and night around too. I find it easiest to do stuff at night.

>I fundamentally disagree with anyone who says he's not capable or just straight-up wouldn't.
In one of my shit trips I pull a lot of quotes from him in some audios very very much in favour of him doing it. There's evidence there to argue both ways but I reeeee when someone suggests the pro-fighting side is silly or unfounded.

I know this will sound terribly cliché, but seeking professional help might be worth it in the long run. I know it's a scary and uncomfortable prospect, but if you really feel this bad, they might be able to help you out. Even if it's just to give you a neutral party to talk things out with. I know we all are, in some ways, exactly that on /who/, but speaking face-to-face with someone trained to help lead people to recovery from dark times can make a world of difference.

>>87037668
With all due respect, they don't seem like very good friends. Obviously their D&D game is important to them, but fudging rolls occasionally, on non-important actions isn't worth rejecting a friend for. At least I don't think so. If I was in your position - assuming you feel that this isn't something that is repairable with them, nor would you wish it to be after how they've seemingly treated you - I would view this as a sort of fresh start. An opportunity to find new people who would treat you kinder. (For that insurmountable task, Neo gave some good suggestions - seeking out clubs and the like, though I do understand that it can be difficult if transport is an issue.)

Oh goodo, well here's a revised version of one of my shit trips https://pastebin.com/7UgHdDuy I fixed some typos and added some stuff to the start with 8. My 8/12 one should also be finished today, just working on that at the moment.

>>87038050
This, other anon. Professional help really is worth it, even if the wait times are long or the money situation is hard to sort out.

Feel free to read the pastebin I linked to Immigrant up there but be warned, 8 is only really at the start of it, and there are some hefty Neverland/Zagreus spoilers. I tried to obscure the EDA (audio) spoilers a bit and not name some names. Also the whole thing is a clusterfuck, but I had fun trying to make my headcanon into a narrative.

>Your own damn fault for living in the back arse of beyond out in Australia
Hey I'll be further north soon enough but still far away from Europe or the Americas lol. A lot of /who/res live in places I've always planned on visiting sometime though, Canada, Scotland, etc. I've always thought the islands off Scotland look so fucking beautiful.

>>87038190
I for one have faith in whatever you do. 13 trips would probably lend itself to being segmented anyway though.
>>
>>87038272
The Thirteen Trips fic is nearly done; whereas the original framing story is halfway done, and would require much more work.

I'll probably recycle the original framing idea into ST Vol 2

Well I just recently got free health insurance, but I've never had it before so I don't know how to go about finding professional help that's covered by my insurance. I'm kind of a failure at life.

You've been saying some awfully kind words to me tonight, I appreciate that.

I still hate myself though
>>
>>87038310
Thank you, Neo. Actually, might I post a sample of the original framing story for you to read? Tell me if you enjoy it.

Do some meditation. Find a quiet room, and breathe deeply for about ten minutes.

>>87038340
Remember that some people watched the entirety of Death in Paradise because they were convinced Kris Marshall was gonna be 13

Meditation is pure kino, greatly improved my life.

Go for it!!

Google it or ring up a health line or something, definitely worth it

But Death in Paradise is a fairly good entertainment and it's nowhere close to Davros having his eyes closed THE WHOLE TIME

I think I've dont it again

Dear god, I'm writing some amount of paragraphs today.

>>87038310
>there are some hefty Neverland/Zagreus spoilers
Hm, in that case I might just hold off on reading it until I'm a bit further on in the audios. It'll probably be better for me to have full context anyway. When I get around to it, I'll let you know what I think - though something tells me I'll end up agreeing with you on pretty much everything again.

>I'll be further north soon enough but still far away from Europe or the Americas
Where are you off to then? I think I forgot to ask.

>I've always thought the islands off Scotland look so fucking beautiful.
I've not actually been to any of the islands, but I've spent plenty enough time further north, in the Cairngorms and all that. There really are some spectacular landscapes here, but I almost feel as though I've been desensitised to them because I've lived here all my life.

>>87038420
>I don't know how to go about finding professional help that's covered by my insurance
I'm not sure where you're from and how the healthcare system works there, but if you have something like a family doctor or so, you could make an appointment with them and inquire about any sort of help they might offer in that field. They might be able to refer you on to a specialist clinic. Alternatively, if there's any sort of health helpline you can contact - either online or over the phone (if you're comfortable with that!) - they should be able to direct you to the right people.

>You've been saying some awfully kind words to me tonight, I appreciate that.
I'm always happy to help someone in need. It's the least I can do. I'm sorry I can't help you more than I'm able, but mental health is always a tricky thing and sadly there's just no magic words that'll sort everything out in one go. I hope you find peace at some point in the near future; you deserve a happy life, I promise you that.

I love it, I don't recognise everyone but the ones I did recognise I was hype for.

>>87038596
Probably good call on holding off, I try to avoid spoilers where reasonable (I sometimes take a sabbatical from here in the onseasons for that purpose)

I'm off to Korea, I'll let you decide which one.

Yeah you definitely have a beautiful country. I mean Australia has tonnes of beauty too but like you say, you get desensitised to your own country. Only thing I don't really get desensitised to is animals I suppose, I treat my dog like it's the day I met her every day, and still get excited driving past the same llamas, sheep, cows that I drive by every time I go out.
>>
>>87038776
Korea? Why?
>>
>>87038776
Who didn't you recognize?

Was anything unclear?

Anything in particular you disliked?

Or liked?

>I'm off to Korea, I'll let you decide which one.
Just a wild guess here, but probably not the one further North. But that's pretty cool - I've got a friend who moved over there (not NK) and they seem to really enjoy it. It's a new sort of adventure, if nothing else.

Characters from books and/or comics.
Actual story and setup for framing was clear.
Nothing I disliked.
I liked the interactions a lot, and your general style as always.

>>87038816
New adventure, work, wanted a big change, fascinated by the country, easier to get started there compared to a lot of other places. I don't have anything tying me down a t m so I'm keen to hop around.

>>87038885
Yeah I had a friend who did it a while back and she really enjoyed it too, I'm pretty hype.

Yes, it was that one. Thank you.

What I learned from that picture is that someone from a very different culture could love that show just like we do.

By the way, would you read : https://pastebin.com/hP3Z9j0m
>>
>>87039035
Animal companions would be hard to do in live-action.
>>
>>87039399
Why not a nice trained show dog or cat? Or a pocket rat?
>>
>>87039442
I wouldn't mind a cat that chills in the TARDIS, actually.
>>
>>87039399
A trained animal probably shouldn't be too difficult, but I imagine it'd be difficult to write an arc around an animal.
>>
>>87039184
I even found a clip of Peter and Jenna receiving it:
https://youtu.be/ovyQkVLIy6s

And I just read through the framing story, and it is excellent. You have no idea how happy I was to see Sam in it, as well. I think the whole thing fits perfectly round the concept of the shit trips anthology, and speaking of the concept... It's interesting enough to be a really long story itself. The idea of the Time War displacing all these companions, from all sorts of realities, and then them ending up in one place - each knowing a different Doctor, with all the stories that comes naturally with that... It's good. Really good. (And for the record, your writing is a pleasure to read, it flows so well.)

>>87039442
Just have a running joke all series wherein occasionally when Thirteen reaches into her pocket to grab something, she pulls out various pocket-sized animals instead.
>>
>>87039488
Yeah. Maybe a pet in the TARDIS.

>>87039550
There's actually two separate alternate Sam Jones in this story. "Ellie Martin" is the Sam Jones-expy from the Sarah Jane audios. She's also a Valeyard companion in another audio...

By the way, have you read Unnatural History?

Well, I knew there was at least one alternate Sam, but I didn't know about her sort-of appearance as Ellie in the SJ audios.

I haven't read Unnatural History yet, no. I'm... getting there, slowly but surely. A wiser person than me might skip out some of the more slower-paced EDAs to get through to the important stuff a bit quicker, but I aim to read them all and I admit it's taking me a while. As far as I'm aware, Unnatural History is the book that properly deals with the alternate-Sam plotline that's popped up occasionally so far, but I don't actually know much of anything that happens in it. I tried my best to avoid spoilers where possible, and thankfully Sam's TARDIS Data Core page is relatively bare, so I haven't stumbled across too many of them accidentally.

>>87039937
An anon after my own heart. (Though I do like 8/Charley too!)
>>
>>87039982
McGanon, what are your top 10 EDA books?
>>
>>87040010
Like I said, I haven't read them all yet, and I've honestly only just scratched the surface. I'm only on book fifteen right now, which would be pretty good were it not for the fact that there's seventy-three in the entire fucking series. (In other words: I'm a fucking fraud of a McGann fan who hasn't even gotten through all of Eight's content.)

>how, pray tell, the fuck can you like fitz so much when you've not even reached his introductory novel
I've read excerpts, dialogue, character discussions, and all that. I've tried to avoid spoiling myself overly much, but I know enough about Fitz to know I enjoy his character immensely, and the rapport he has with Eight.

But, anyway, life story aside... Of the books I've read, my favourites (in no particular order) are probably Vampire Science, Alien Bodies, Kursaal, Seeing I, and The Scarlet Empress, but I could easily point out to you bits I love in all the other novels too. There hasn't been one I've disliked yet.
