No. It would have more potential with a male protagonist but they need to have actually come up with something original still. It didn't factor into why the movie wasn't any good.

They basically came up with a rehash of old star wars events and relied on the old characters. They played it as safe as possible and relied on hype with critics not doing their jobs because of the diverse cast.
