Fellowship is a fantasy adventure while the other 2 are fantasy war epics. Fellowship is just perfect in every way and comfy as fuck.
TT drags a little bit in the middle with the entangled and ROTK gets a bit too far up its own ass a few times. Both are still insanely good but they're not flawless while Fellowship is.

I haven't seen ASM1 or 2, but DofP gets progressively worse upon rewatches. I'd rather rewatch Gwen Stacy's death and the deleted scene of Peter's father than sit through DofP again. Haven't seen Apocalypse either but Homecoming was garbage, so I can't imagine Apoc. being worse. It at least has some Magneto in it so it's probably superior.
Spiderman 3 was just a clusterfuck. Last Stand had some decent scenes with Stewart and McKellen, and Spidy had James Franco. That's pretty much it.

Yes, it would have been great if they never took that step towards this non-stop sequel/prequel cash grab that dilutes a franchise which truely had a great original movie, but they didn't. Empire was good, and overall a better plot and character progression than the original. The Vader thing isn't really that bad, but Return and the prequels (and now this new rehash) has definitely made it look a lot worse.

To be fair, I was going off the extended cuts. I find TT to be a better movie because it progresses towards a solid climax and ends with a great cliffhanger. FotR cilmaxes in Moria and then drags on for the last bit before Borimor gets ORCED and Frodo and Sam have a gay moment. Not exactly a great ending to an otherwise great adventure story.

The Qatsi trilogy is also worth a watch

Not really. Jackson told he studio he was going to do that, but severely undershot material for the sequels. It was kind of his way of tricking New Line into giving him a higher budget and more production time for Fellowship; IIRC, he talks about it in some of the behind the scenes material. There's a reason six weeks of reshoots were needed per year, including round the clock shooting sessions before Return of the King was released. It's one of the reasons the sequels used way more CGI than Fellowship.

BttF p2 was easily the worst in the franchise.
The first was a fantastic film that can easily stand on its own.
The second was a cluttered, convoluted mess. It started off okay (they tried to make the future all confusing to make it seem futuristic, it didn't work very well), but quickly went downhill
The third is the saving grace, a good film that didn;t need to rely on the previous films so much like Part 2 did.
