Oversimplification ruined his arc, ever since the vale. His entire plan is to isolate sansa from jon and arya so she won't use the northern armies to fight the walkers. Instead the combined vale/northern armies will march south when he thinks cersei will go north and steal the throne when no one's looking. In the books it's considerably more complex than this and we haven't gotten to this point yet ofc.

The problem is littlefinger has been shown to be more of an opportunist than a strategist and has a basic idea of what he wants to do, but is just inhumanly good at turning situations he couldn't predict to his advantage. We saw this with the attempt on bran's life, the tyrel/lannister alliance, etc. But this time around the script says he just begs for his life and doesn't even try to argue with bran's visions.

If they were true to the character he would have either fucked off after bran told him about the chaosh laddah, or when they confront him he'd remind them off all the good things he's done for the starks (them not realising they were part of the plan as well), like saving them at the battle, returning ned's bones, and tell them when he betrayed ned he wanted him to go back to winterfell instead of getting his head cut off.

This is basically stannis 2: electric boogaloo. DnD have no idea how to keep him in the story with what the normies think are the real players so they just kill him off to simplify things.

The thing is, the name "Baratheon" is Martin-esque Greek meaning "Barrier to the Gods" which fits with Storm's End perfectly and mirrors "Durran God's Grief". The implication is, he took the name Baratheon only when he took possession of Storm's End, naming himself after the castle and ironically taking on the mantle of the progenitor of house Durrandon.
