At times, especially near the end with the prom shit, It kind of felt like a highschool teenage drama with stupid highschool bullies and everything. They part I liked about the original Death Note, the part that was like two individuals playing a chess game, just wasn't in this movie at all.

L established that Kira needed a name and face to kill. The newspaper was the face Light needed. That the guy's death coincided with the beginning of the Kira killings was proof enough for him

Right before L goes to Mia's house, they have the flashback to pic related. L is dumb as fuck in the movie but he's competent enough to realize that this sheet of paper with the names of the FBI agents who killed themselves was from the book.

He was brilliant to the point of farce when he was determining Kira's location and who it was, but after finding out that Light was Kira nearly immediately it's almost like he has a stroke or something and it's like he just doesn't have a game plan anymore and can't even figure out the most obvious shit in the world.

Yeah, I remember that, but why did L assume Light was telling the truth or not just stalling for time making up bullshit? And why did L assume the paper wasn't just a list of names that didn't hold any power?

And I can't help but also feel that the movie completely glossed over the fact that Light completely wrecked an entire classroom when Ryuk showed up. Surely he didn't just get away with messing that place up, right?
