I think Dany in Mereen would have been better if someone had edited it better. The character development (or lack thereof, depending on opinion) was important for her and Barristan comes into his own, his chapters were some of the best writing GRRM ever did. But really like 50% of that crap could have been gotten rid of.

Here's to hoping Arya's isn't as bad but the show majorly fucked that up. The pacing was all over the place, just terribly done.

Here's the reason. Oberyn Martell was surprisingly popular and stole the show whilst he was around. They wanted to recreate that by making his bastard children (who are in the books, but look and behave differently) prominent in season 5 and end with a 'shock' death of Myrcella as her death will probably be more important to the plot than her life. Well, people thought the Snkes were shit, and with the consequences obviously going to be that they would be arrested or killed by Doran, they killed him off for shock and Trystane, then had the Sand Snakes do nothing for the rest of the season so that they didn't need to write about Dorne. Now that the Sneks are dead, the writers need not worry about Dorne at all.

Kelly C has to have her story drawn out because of the situation in Westeros. With all the stuff going on there for the first 6 seasons there was no time to fit in a plot about Kelly invading. Plus all the Westeros plots had to resolve, thus she gets pointless filler plot while the Westeros stuff plays out. Remember, this was originally supposed to be one book, then two books, then a trilogy.

Open scenes either have a dulling orange blur or a watery blue filter, depending on where they are, and indoor scenes have a reddish-brown filter if there are candles, and a plainer brown if it's supposed to be natural light, and when they do that it's always so dark it leaves you wondering if they're doing it to make up for lack of sets.

Yeah, I think you're right. There's potential there but he got carried away. In fact, Daenerys' last chapter feels almost like Martin is telling himself that he got carried away with her plot and she just needs to get on with it. I don't have much hope for TWOW being released, but if it is then I do have hope that Daenerys story will get more interesting and she'll end up in Westeros.

If they had gotten their way and time to plan I don't doubt Dorne would have looked twice as orange as King's Landing. D&D have very little judgement when it comes to subtlety, and will go for a safe, formulaic way of doing things every time, even if it ends up being an oppressively monotone presentation to the audience.

The original outline suggested that the intention was for her to use dragons to get the Dothraki to follow her, then she invades Westeros with the Dothraki, which may happen in TWOW.

I guess she needed to wait until her dragons were larger so they'd pose an actual threat before going to Westeros, but then he decided to write what happened during this time.

Sometimes they change their minds on that too. I think in season 4 when she first takes Meereen, they found the exact same number of ships that Victarion is bringing over to her just sitting in the docks (I can't remember whether this is mentioned in season 4 when she first takes Meereen or in season 5). They were obviously just not bothering with the Ironborn as they weren't mentioned at all in season 5. Then, early in season 6, every single ship is burned by the Sons of the Harpy and Tyrion makes a little quip about not going back to Westeros. The Ironborn are then reintroduced, Balon is killed off much later than he was in the books and we get Yara filling in for Victarion with Theon as her butler.

He says he pledged to ride North and he intends to keep that pledge, to which she tells him that will be considered treason. He says he doesn’t care - he’s going. He turns to walk away but the Mountain stands in his way. She tells Jaime no one walks away from her.
