I know what you mean in that it's jarring. It's great to actually see the footage, but honestly, I preferred the 2007 Restored Version, which doesn't include the newly-discovered footage. It kind of drags out the movie on scenes we don't need to see (like that literal-who guy exploring Yoshihara).

It's kind of like the Assembly Cut of Alien 3, or the "Director's Cut" of Exorcist 3, the latter of which jumps to VHS footage which, on Blu Ray, almost defeats the point of watching it. See pic related.

That said i am glad that it is at least there and available, though the 2014 release should have had the 2007 version.

It makes me wonder what will happen when we find the shit that is in really bad shape. Like, if someone actually finds some moldy Brazilian copy of The Magnificent Andersons, or some lost copy of the 8-hour Greed. How laudable would it be if the stuff looked like pure garbage?
