I haven't made a short film in years, since I was still in school and could filch free equipment. I got the chance to use a decent camera recently and am trying to put together a 1-minute short for the Chicago International Film contest:
http://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/festival/60-second-film-competition/
I'm in every sense an amateur, and am sort of winging it based off of an idea that popped into my head, so I can't vouch for its effectiveness. Just want to have something done to get back into the groove of things. If it's shit, then that is in line with my two previous shorts!

you went to a film school?
>>86881665
loool no. My original plan was to make Godfrey Ho shorts by bribing my friends since that is what we were all in to, and somehow that landed me a finalist spot in my college's student film contest. I think ironically, but fuck it, I beat out 90% of the film-studies "my boyfriend/girlfriend left me boo hoo" and "PHIL101" junk.

Godfrey Ho?

It's a pleasure indeed to introduce someone into the wild, wild world of Godfrey Ho. He is Kino Incarnate. He made like 25 movies in one year, all of them about ninjas.

'no'
I want to into not having terrible sound in my films
What sound equipment do you guys use? What's something affordable but quality?

Wasn't he the director who would take different plots from Hong Kong movies and film a few minutes of new footage with Richard Harrison and mash everything together?

I have a $60 rode video micro microphone that give me pretty decent audio.

that same legendary man. Gotta admire a director who pursued his incredibly stupid vision, relentlessly, again and again and again. All while stealing a-ha music and anime soundtracks for them.

I guess I should mention I am also editing (pro-bono) together some bigfoot-hunting spoof segments for a friend's little internet show. The footage is... well what you would expect for an internet "show."
I wrote two more sketches over the past two days because I finally worked out a reliable way to bypass my inability to maintain concentration at home without making myself feel ashamed for writing in public where people can see me.
I still haven't done anything with any of the stuff I've written. Trying to talk to and meet people is still too tiring and confusing.
I might just record them with puppets if I can get over the shame of speaking loudly in my room.

keep it up
>>86882586
you don't need anything fancy, you just need to find good places to capture your audio
try to avoid windy areas or indoor places where you have stuff running
>>86887130
stop thinking that other people have control of your life or actions, they don't. it's your room, you can do whatever you want in it
Just got into a production course at a university. Considering how I can use that not only with films but with TV and commercials in general, was it a smart idea for job prospects ?

Oh hello mister pedo.

Yea or go to rentals and get some wire mics and a boom mic. You should get a nice package for about 30 euros a day. Don't forget that a lot of the perceived quality comes from the sounddesigner.

Just finished up some trailers I did to promote a big theatre project that will launch soon.
I'm now editing a 50 minute documentary. I've never edited something with a feature length time. It's about burn outs and the director is discussion a deal to have it go on national television.
