So Isildur (a an average Númenorian) couldn't resist the pull of the ring, do you honestly Elrond (a poweful elf lord) could? If elf-boy got into physical contact with the ring he'd definitely keep it for his own devices (like even Frodo with a will of steel did at the end). And besides, if he started fighting Isildur, the ring would probably help the guy win the fight. Remember it gives varied powers to different people, it's not an invisibility potion.
