Cheese and Marlo are the worst.

The show should've ended after season 3.

>rapidly became a one dimensional mad scientist caricature that stayed alive far too long

This analysis is so wrong that I believe that you didnt even watch the show. Either that or you're just retarded.

him lighting cats on fire was pretty realistic, I like they way they depicted the sadistic fucked up mind of the young urban youth in this HBO show by David Simon. That man knows his work. In his decades as a crime reported I can only imagine how many thousands of times he covered a story just like this.

Omar is overhyped. The press characters were uniformly bad.

Protip: there is no worst character.

Or maybe Mcnulty was kinda annoying sometimes

He was white. He didn't have to.
>>
>>86836010
I don't think that's the point, tho. Lots of white characters had progression in their personality throughout. Herc is still Herc, even in the final montage, using people solely for his own gain.

Is this show better than the Sopranos?

should i watch it?
>>
>>86836447

This question gets asked somewhat often. I'll assume this isn't bait and answer legitimately

I've watched The Wire 5-6 times all the way through and The Sopranos twice and I think it's fair to say that Sopranos is overall a better show. I think The Wire has a really interesting and human world, and the plotlines are (mostly) really engaging and realistic.

The Sopranos also has a lot of world-building and multiple threads, but the writing is significantly better. I don't say that to mean David Simon is a bad writer, but he has a very specific style that comes from his years working in newspapers. Some of the dialogue in The Wire is very jarring and out of place (the 'king' scene), whereas for the most part the dialogue in The Sopranos is all very realistic and grounded (considering it's a show about fictional characters).

I think if you liked The Sopranos you'll probably like The Wire. Give it a couple episodes and see how you feel.
>>
>>86836727
Sopranos is significantly worse than the Wire when it comes to writing. Wtf you talking about.
>>
>>86836793
you're a dumb fuck if you think that. The Sopranos is superbly written. The dialogue is absolutely top-notch and the relationships between the characters are unparalleled in how well they are dissected and explored. Don't get me wrong, I love The Wire, and I love its writing style, but it simply doesn't compare in terms of dialogue and character building, mostly because it doesn't try for those goals, it's about the story of the city and it's written in a much more documentary-style than a narrative-style.

>>86836793

What makes you say that? I think there are a lot of scenes in The Wire where people say things entirely out of character (like the aforementioned 'king' scene, as well as carver's "wars end" and so on)
>>
>>86830958
>Idris became a caricature

what? he became a deeper character as the show went on
>>
Chris was the best character
>>
This kid was the best character. Dude was only six and took out Omar on his own. Probably only did like two years then gets out before he's ten as the most feared killer in Baltimore. Plus he gets all that sweet Marlo money for the hit still, probably even interest and shit because Marlo got white people to handle his money. Plus Marlo semi retired from the game so he would probably hand over his throne to the little bastard once he gets out too. Literally set for life at the age of ten, plus all the cops owe him one too since nobody wanted that faggot nigger thief Omar still breathing walking tall in dem streets.
>>
>>86829232
FUN FACT:
2 years ago that kid's actor got arrested armed robbery at his neighbourhood's liquor store, which 3 weeks later was found to be a front for a gang's large dealings in crack and weed.
>>
>>86831223
Not one of the best characters. THE best character
>>
nigger
>>
Omar was by far the worst character... Made the series completely unrealistic, it has "written by white suburban kids" written all over it
>>
never liked the black detective or the bald white guy

he was based off a real life stick up boy. Nothing about him was that unrealistic. His little kill streak in the final season was a bit much but then he got iced out of nowhere which seemed realistic to me
>>
>>86831189
I've never seen one IRL are they intimidating or can you shoot the shit with them if you see one in line at the grocery store?
>>
>>86839414
Openly gay hoodlum? No matter how brutal nobody would be cooperating with someone like that. If it was based on a real person then you bet he would keep his buttfucking a secret.
Completely unrealistic that anyone would be seen respecting a faggot. He would be iced as soon as he looked like trouble.
>>
>>86835545
Huh?
>>
>>86836997
>wars end
I appreciate how the show at least acknowledged how hammy that line was by having Herc write it down to remember it.

Rewatched this recently, he was trying to burn a cat a few scenes before this one, never noticed it on the first watch
>>
I'm watching the 1st season of The Wire and I just got done watching the episode where DeAngelo teaches the younger kids chess. I was blown away! I had to watch it a couple times to really pick up on it, but did you guys realize that when he was teaching them about the chess pieces, he was really referring to THEM being the pawns! What an amazing metaphor!

It was so deep and meaningful, I am amazed by the deep symbolism of this.

Do the later seasons continue on with masterful symbolism like this? This was truly the pinnacle of storytelling that I have ever seen on a television show, and I think I can confidently say The Wire is the best show ever made without even having seen the entire series.

Also the acting is amazing. Idris Elba and Dominic West do a great job with their Baltimore accents.
