The defenders was never appealing to me as its the very opposite of what made DD and JJ stand out in the first place. Neither show is perfect but when they work they both brought something different to the table. Teaming them up to fight magic immortal armies of disposable ninjas is just too much like all the comic book films I've long since stopped watching. I may give season 3 of Daredevil a go if it gets back to street level crime fighting but other than that and the Punisher these netflix shows are over for me.

Nothing happened. Eight episodes of garbage that could have been fit snuggly into one, two episodes at most.

The writers had no idea how to make their powers work together. It's shown early that even martial out masters can't phase Luke, but then every scene he's fighting the hand he's getting pushed around. Jessica only has super strength going for her, but for some reason they have Luke doing all the tossing of cars and bar bending stuff so she's left doing jack shit. Iron Fist never apparently is only useful for his one punch, except for the last fight where he kept it on but all the damage was the same as his regular punches. DD was alright at least. Why in the fuck can't they make Iron Fist a goofy laidback character? The group dynamic demands it. Looking at something as fundamental as Shakespeare's four humors, shit even the TMNT addresses, it's good for group dynamics. Defenders is like Leo, Leo, Leo, and Raph. There needed to be some levity in the group since Matt and Luke are so straight-laced. But a happy laidback since Jessica's thing is that she's disaffected and jaded and reluctantly on board. Iron Fist is far and away the weakest part of the show. As soon as they stop treating his fist (should be fists), as a super secret finishing move type thing, the show will exponentially increase in quality.

Charlie Cox carried the show though. Ritter helped a little too.

It's weird because DD is the superior martial artist even though Danny has fucking dragon blood coursing through him and was trained by shaolin monks since he was like 9 years old. Show doesn't even try to hide it and stick even mentions it. I wish Luke had more trouble fighting the hand since they're faster/more agile but if he ever did get a hit in it would hurt, and have him use street smarts to get hits. Or have the team show have actual team moves, like DD being agile enough to grab a ninja and hold him so Luke can get a punch in, etc.

It was the most predictable coloring by numbers shit I've seen in a while. From the moment they said Iron Fist's punch would open the gate I knew he was going to get in a fight and accidentally punch the gate. The only time I was surprised by anything was being surprised at how predictable it was.

My main complaint is that they wasted the most iconic scene from Born Again to bring Matt back.

The whole fucking point of Born Again was that Matt had lost everything, that every single thing he owned and treasured had been methodically stripped from him before he was finally broken, drowning in a sinking taxi to the bottom of the river. It's what gives the resurrection metaphor some actual weight.

Just having him come back without having lost anything means Born Again won't get a proper adaptation. Unless he comes back after dying only to lose everything, nearly die, and then come back from dying again.

This was the legit worst part. Even with the knowledge of a third Daredevil season spoiling him coming back, leave some suspense as to what happened.

Didn't the Hand in S2 of Daredevil not have heartbeats making it so he couldn't tell how many there were and what they were doing? Yet in Defenders he can locate them no problem.
