it's kinda funny how every site on the internet pushes out n-th hot takes about the show, regardless of how unrelated a TV series is to their usual content

During season 4 my friends suggested I watch it, and the first episode I ever saw was The Mountain and the Viper. I thought it was brutal, and immediately decided to watch the series. I caught up before season 5, and read the books before season 5 because I was told they were better. Season 5 and 6 were disappointing with occasional enjoyable moments, and I'm really just watching now because it's a couple hours every Sunday that my friends and I hang out. I'm a big fan of the worldbuilding that GRRM has done though.

I'm in an Eastern Euro shithole. I watched the first couple of seasons and I thought it was cool that it had all these somewhat grey characters and political drama, but yeah, it was not on the level of series like The Wire or The Sopranos story wise. Then around season 3 onward everyone started talking about how cool it is and everyone got obsessed over it, it was around that time the "I'm such a nerd" culture all started with shit like The Big Bang Theory and the Marvel shit movies. I try to talk to some self-proclaimed big fans of Game of Thrones at work and they don't even know basic shit (like that Jorah is the son of that old Nights Watch commander Mormont) but claim they're super big fans. Pathetic. They all watch it because it's popular and it's popular because those sheep watch it.

i watched fairly religiously through season 1 - 4, fell off after 5. i even bought the first 3 books about 4, maybe 5 years ago. show got fucking stale honestly, one of the biggest disappointments i've felt from a series because i genuinely used to love it, especially seasons 1 and 2. most people i know don't feel the same whatsoever. i'm not even being pompous or anything, there is just zero desire to continue watching. i feel like it started getting too self righteous and pandering.

I watched the first seasons because I was interested, then I watched more because of the time already invested and now I'm just waiting for it to fucking end. All this bullshit is shaping up to end like a generic shit-ass good beats evil fantasy flick except that some MCs die in the last minute so the show can still play its faggot LE WALLA MONGRUELS xD card but they'll be succeeded by their descendants anyway so it's utterly moot. The supporting characters will most probably die as well but since the show's ending who gives a fuck. The Tarlys died so fatfuck can get his castle, Benjen died because there is no time for extra plots anymore and Littlefinger gets it soon too for the same reason.
