His role in the series was to give Sansa some leadership qualities and help free her from the Lannisters. He also helped defeat Ramsay. He's had alterior motives the entire series that involve him gaining more power which he achieved. Every other character has also power spiked past him and now he's just a conniving lord that wants to bang Sansa and since he fucked people over throughout the seven seasons he's going to die.
