Due to the inability of the English to pronounce the name Perthuis any other way than Pertwiss, it was subsequently changed to Pertwee. This proved a pointless exercise as over the years, even in England, I have been subjected to the following interpretations of my name, the veracity of which I will swear to, having avidly filed them away over the years : –
Tom Peetweet
Jon Peterwee
Jon Peartree
Mr Twee
Saniel Pertwee (A strange amalgam of my son and daughter, Sean and Dariel)
Mr Pardney
Mr Bert Wee
John Peewee (School, of course)
Newton Pertwee (Scientist?)
Mr Pickwick
Miss Jane Partwee
Master J. Peewit
Mr Pertweek
Joan Pestwick
J Pertinee
John Between
Mr and Mrs Jon Perkee
And the most recent addition, from a gentleman in Zimbabwe, assuming presumably that I am a “brother”. . .
J. Parpertwuwe
In the United States of America, however, I found that if you have a complicated, almost unpronounceable name of Lithuanian, German, Bulgarian, Russian, Czech, Japanese, Polish or Hungarian descent – a name Pztyltz for example – they will get it in one! But, if you happened to have a simple, honest-to-God name like Pertwee, they are utterly confounded!
I was playing on Broadway in There’s a Girl in my Soup when our ancient name received its final indignity. The stage door keeper of The Music-Box Theatre was sitting, cigar in face, guarding the keys, when I entered the stage-door.
“Hey Jan!”
As my Christian name is Jon, and as I was being proudly reminded of that fact by the regular sight of it emblazoned in letters of light on the Marquee above the Theatre, it was a natural assumption that the cigar-chewing voice was addressing somebody else!
The summons came again this time molto forte.
“Hey! Jan”
With puzzled expression and finger pointing at my chest, I turned, asking, “Who? – Me?”
“Yes! You! Jan Putrid! There’s a letter for you!”

ughhhhhhhh /who/ youll never guess what happened to me

I went to the local flea market this past Sunday and while I was there, I decided to get some French Fries from a kiosk. The line was surprisingly long and I ended up waiting approximately 30 mins.

I finally get to the front of the line, order food for myself, my girlfriend, and one of my buddies, and while I am waiting to pay, I get some ketchup from the pump that is to my right, next to the ordering window. I notice that it's pretty difficult to pump ketchup out, but pay no mind

A minute later, a young girl of maybe 14-16 years of age, asks me for help with pumping the ketchup out for her, so I say "Sure, I gotcha".

She thanks me and asks for help with the mustard as well, so I proceed to pump the mustard and like the ketchup dispenser, it was difficult to press the pump mechanism down.
I press a little harder and POP! The nozzle flies out of the pump mechanism which frees the pump up to blast a fat amount of mustard out and onto the girls ENTIRE face! It's in her hair, and on her shirt.

I'm so mortified and in shock that I'm just standing next to her saying "I'm so sorry!" I pick up the nozzle instead of wiping her face, and when my fries came out, I opted to eat a couple while still standing next to her... I have no idea what was going through my mind at the time. Then i just went home and watched the unicorn and the wasp.

What's the overlap fans in both Star Trek and Doctor Who? They're dissimilar in many ways, but I feel like their similarities would bring both fandoms together. For example, I'm currently excited about 13 and hesitant about STD, and I wonder if /who/ feels the same way.

Matt Who and Capaldi Who are very, very different things

>The ending of The God Complex is ultimately unsatisfying in this way, because it violates the fundamental rule of endings, which is that they are a necessary consequence of beginnings. The Aristotelean web, where every event sets up future ones or pays off past ones, is thus both an object of qlippothic horror and a measure of salvation, allowing the story of the Ponds to end on an act of healing and reparation.

Literally how, tardisposting is full of pseuds signalling since it's public profiles, /who/ is full of people either trolling purely for reactions or speaking their actual mind since there's no matter either way. Completely different mindset and environment. That's not even getting into how different the "main" opinions are at each site.

Well I for one am not in that half, the terrible upvote/downvote mechanic kills my interest in ever trying to have decent discussions on plebbit. Groupthink is baked right into the entire site, it's awful. Groupthink is just incidental on places like here, it's not cooked right into the entire function and interface of the site.
Plebbit's good at aggregating links (what it was actually built for) it's terrible for comments/discussion.
Plus people speak the truth more when anonymous, without any status signalling profile/votecount shit.

Did anyone else hate Amy's cameo in TTotD? Karen has such a gormless blank expression on her face and she's doing that annoying and embarrassing "sexy pout" she always did. Also, she's obviously wearing a wig and the child actress they got to play Amelia looked nothing like Caitlin Blackwood, even the giggle sounded wrong. 11 should've regenerated on the clocktower.

Very legit complaints, though they didn't bother me so much. It wasn't really "Amy" after all, just a hallucination of her - how much that matters for someone is up to them.
Not using Caitlin Blackwood annoyed me though. So what if she's much older, it's literally already a hallucination, it doesn't have to be "accurate".
I also appreciate both Matt and Karen have wigs in that scene, I think that's funny/neat.
I like the "reset" scene in the TARDIS too much to wish he just regenerated on the clocktower. C'mon, his speech to Clara is kino.

r/gallifrey has annoying in your face mods, but is still miles better than r/doctorwho. r/doctorwho is mostly just arts and crafts, cupcakes and shit, ocassionally RTD discussion. r/gallifrey is discussion of the actual show and audios. that said groupthink is supreme on both and discussions dont ever get as fun or as insightful as here, but the baseline quality on r/gallifrey is higher because of their overdone moderation. theres also no community vibe on either, for whats its worth.
>>
>>86774298
r/doctorwho has more cosplay, fanart, and links obvs. also more discourse over showrunners, and more normies. r/gallifrey is as /who/ as it gets outside of /who/

Makes sense. I could always find something to actually talk about on Gallefry. Didnt hate it either, despite the upvote system I did see some decent discussion, it's probably harder to groupthink on Doctor Who since opinions are often split down the middle on a lot of topics.

There was some great discussion on AV Club's who episode reviews but I felt less inclined to go since they were reviewing episodes I didnt like so well to the point where the reviews would have little value to me

I genuinely despise the community at the AV Club, but yes sometimes their Doctor Who comments sections have great discussion. The bloke who used to write the reviews put a lot of effort.

>>
>>86775037
Well firstly I should clarify a lot of the critics, the reviews themselves, at the AV Club are good. My two favourite modern film critics both work for the site actually. And they used to have several good TV critics. I don't so much have issues with their reviews (their "news" section is terrible though).

It's the comment sections. They're everything I hate about modern fandom / pop culture. Anti-intellectual. Closed-minded. Likes/upvotes~dislikes/downvotes drown out any actual interesting conversation and just encourage endless circlejerking, which leads to endless groupthink, which leads to insufferable arrogance. Lazy. Self-congratulatory. Etc.

Last night I actually had a dream that the Watcher was in the Christmas special, and it seriously looked kino. The Watcher looked like Jodie, but as this wispy ghost (kind of like a Patronus from Harry Potter) , and was referred to as a "ghost of christmas".

Now I'm sad this won't happen.

Every time someone says this I remember LOST.

Also no real need to, pretty much everything I go there for is animated, and and off season.

Also this, I see what Neo is saying, but 4chan, and especially /tv/ pretty much suffers from the same problems and its still okay to get discussion there. Upvotes are just replaced with replies.

You never know, something similar might happen. They probably won't do the Watcher again because it makes the new Doctor seem a bit too freakish and insectlike, but the idea of the "ghost of Christmas future" being the impending Doctor is very Moffat.

Personally, for the things I value, /who/ (and 4chan in general) is a more enjoyable experience than a lot of these other websites. I'm not trying to invalidate anyone else's opinions or experiences, just offering some reasons I prefer the culture here.

>4chan, and especially /tv/ pretty much suffers from the same problems and its still okay to get discussion there. Upvotes are just replaced with replies.
It depends what you value most really. If you value engagement as a metric (which is actually how a lot of these sites think under the hood, YouTube is interesting in that they're actually more open about that these days, viewer engagement is vastly more important than 'positivity', Facebook also does a decent job farming its user metrics into things like emoji reactions to categorise advertisement, etc.) I can see your point.
But what if you value expression more than engagement? A 4chan post doesn't get "hidden" because other users dislike it, the way that happens on Reddit and similar websites. Even if nobody replies to it, it wasn't hidden from user's eyes.
Anonymity also encourages open expression. I'm not even talking dox, just having a username and traceable catalogue of your own posts at all (yes I'm aware of the irony of valuing this when I'm a trip), these all affect the culture of websites. For as much as /lit/ talks of pseuds, there are vastly, vastly, vastly less pseuds on /lit/ than Goodreads, because there is so much less benefit or reason to signal your worth on 4chan.

Well this trip evolved out of a joke, I've been on /who/ on-and-off since the early days in 2013 but it was just earlier this year that whole multiple Cloister joke thing went off, that eventually had me assume the whole "Neo" Cloister thing.

But really, I spend a fair deal of time here, write a lot of my thoughts here, and have a lot of conversations valuable to me here (I've had so many fantastic conversations with so many anons), and I find it very useful to be able to refer back to them in the archives easily by searching the tripcode.

I don't troll or misrepresent my opinions, and I'm honest about all of them, so I have no need to pretend I'm a different anon. I still have the anonymity of my actual name, and other online accounts, being entirely disconnected from this trip.

I don't in any way consider myself as ongoing-ly valuable the way identifiable content producers like, say, Edge and Lymerence are, but anons do sometimes ask for me by name/trip so I assume I have some sort of recognisability. That's effective in both ways, someone who wants to engage with me will know I'll be level and earnest with them for instance, and anons who dislike me and my style can filter me out completely and not have to deal with my presence at all.

In the Writer's Tale, RTD talks about nixing an Agatha Christie title joke that would have went like:
DONNA: "It's like Ten Little-"
DOCTOR: "-niggles aside, we'd better look in the library."

AGATHA CHRISTIE

I'm now amusing myself by trying by trying to get as many Agatha Christie titles into the dialogue as possible.

Re: AGATHA CHRISTIE

Actually I did try:

DONNA: It's like Ten Little -
DOCTOR: Niggles aside, let's look in the library

But I thought it was too risky, so cut it.
>>
>>86778242
Ugh...now, some people appear to find this shocking because it mentions "niggers" - a word in common use in the time period the story is set in - but personally I found it shocking because of the casual manner in which Russell approaches his script editing duties....(er, was he the script editor, by the way?)

No creative person - at least none that I've ever met - likes their work being messed around with, but obviously they are prepared to put up with it being edited if this improves it - what shocked me was Russell's apparently flippant attitude towards doing this, in that he was "amusing himself" by adding asides, and potentially spoiling dialogue that Roberts had agonised over for hours, merely to throw in a pointless joke. As someone who has herself agonised for hours over each word of dialogue, I know that I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of that sort of treatment, especially not when it's delivered in such an offhanded-seeming manner.

>I'm now amusing myself by trying by trying to get as many Agatha Christie titles into the dialogue as possible

That just about sums it up. Never mind the series continuity, potential plot holes, the absurdity of a woman falling in love with and shagging a giant wasp......You know, the kind of thing a script editor should be looking at. No, lets just squeeze in a few book titles. Fucking disgrace of a 'showrunner'.

It's common knowledge that RTD rewrote virtually everything (except Moffat and a couple of unspecified others). Apparently this was the case for Moffat as well, and I just have to wonder what state the average script arrived in for this to have to be commonplace. Were the writers really all so shit that they couldn't reach the NuWho standard?
>>
>>86778298
Yeah, fuck him for adding more jokes to an episode focused on comedy.
