I'm convinced that certain aspects of the show seem to be mocking modern day shows, like how the original mocked the soap operas that were popular at the time.

The arm wrestling contest gave me real Walking Dead vibes, all these guys with guns wearing weid and dirty outfits hanging out in a dilapidated warehouse, they felt like some post apocalyptic raider gang, right down to the stupid way they structure themselves (in this case arm wrestling) They would fit right in with the retarded groups on TWD

The Dougie plotline seems to mock Breaking Bad and other Crime shows. Main character with a nagging wife and non-entity son has to fend off assassins and gangsters, there's even a trip to the desert. The twist being that the main character is literally retarded but still bumbles his way to success.
