One of my favorite films. Incredibly comfy. Also it was really good about using historical accuracy. It was historically accurate enough in the right places to feel authentic. But it knew not to be too autistic about it and ruin the story. It used real life events for inspiration rather than drawing on them directly.

Really top notch stuff. It feels like it's accurately capturing the times without feeling pretentious.

This and master of commander are films I thought were mediocre when they came out but now realize even a mediocre historical adventure film about masculine themes done with serious filmmaking is excellent by today's standards and should be cherished whenever one pops up. Lost city of z and Dunkirk are the only ones we're getting this year.

I fucking loved this movie. It helped that the soundtrack was god tier. The village part of the movie was top tier comfy. Plural for samurai is still samurai. The title is for the last age of the samurai, literally the end of an era and class. The title wouldn't sound good if it said, The Last of the Samurai.

Those people are dumb, but the film would've probably been elevated to classic status had it simply been about a captain of the Meiji emperor's army who slaughtered a bunch of samurai in the past, (like how Aruguru-sanslaughtered a bunch of Indians in the past), and then he gets fucking captured and the movie plays out like it does with Cruise but without the english speaking scenes.

I remember watching this when I was a kid, I cried at the end. Saw the film again recently and felt nothing except a little satisfaction at the retard samurais getting gunned down.
