For me it's a lot to do with the fact that she's lost a lot of her plot armour. When she was in Essos sometimes bad things happened to her but every time random happenstance would turn things around and it would all comes up roses for Dany. But this season in Westeros she's taken some pretty major hits and she's just having to sit there and take them like a real character.
