Think I fell for the Enterprise is shit meme a few years ago about after a few watch throughs I'd rate it 3rd after DS9 and TNG. If they got a season five added Shran as a crew member etc it would have been kino tier.

I love it. It's not the best but it's such a loyal series and I happen to like the Ferengi enough as main characters that everyone else being lukewarm doesn't bother me.

It also has the best intro theme which is also one of the best musical pieces ever.

Honestly, the best intro of all Treks is Voyager's.
Both musically and graphically.

>>
>>86667674
The DS9 track opens in such a way that it drives the ear to "crane" into it, like a person who is craning their neck to look up into the starry sky. And it's militarily powerful.

Voyager's intro feels like an imitation. But it ends much stronger. Gets a very adventurous tone to it and ends more triumphantly.

I like them both.

>>

I think DS9 relies heavily on the holodeck. And Nog (the ferengi kid).
>>
>>86668493
No, I did too.
I rooted for the genetically enhanced like Khan etc.
Genetic enhancement isn't a thing to look down on.
Suppose you were born a retard like Bashir, enhancement seems like a gift right?
All of the 24th century's ethics seem weird.
Retarded guys can't get enhanced legally?
Eh, I'll never get that line of thought.
Prior to the genetics war or whatever, there was a different pov
I think maybe those people had something to say.
Genetics isn't a subject that can be resolved with war.
So, I think more retards should be upgraded like Bashir was.

Not sure if I'll ever watch it.
It's some of the worst animation I've ever seen and the stories are pointed towards children (it aired on Saturday mornings I believe).
Might be depriving myself of some okay Trek but I've heard it's not most fans' cup of tea (as in it lacks that same feeling as TOS).

Dan Ackroyd in red.
>>
>>86669407
yeah it's weird to watch since it's cartoon you get some really cool alien designs that would never work in live action (like aliens that are plants or live underwater) and most of TOS cast supplied the voices, but again since it's a cartoon some of the plots are off-the-wall bonkers like flying through a black hole into an opposite universe or Quetzalcoatl was actually a visiting alien.

I enjoyed DS9 but I think it lacked exploration and discovery. I enjoyed the politics and character development though.

My favorite star trek series are tied between enterprise and voyager. Both had the sense of exploration, with a touch of modern cinematography and practical effects/cgi.

>I enjoyed DS9 but I think it lacked exploration and discovery.
But they purposely weren't going for that; they wanted the exploration to come to them at the station.

In fact, we were discovering and exploring except it was from the vantage point of the one being visited by outsiders.. namely those from the other side of the wormhole.

Not to mention, we had plenty of episodes that involved going to various Gamma Quadrant worlds and seeing new civilizations in a runabout or in the Defiant.

DS9's main detractor for me was the main characters. I think we grow to like some of them but others like Jadzia or Bashir never really have an arc or any true character growth. It's why I like so many of the outside characters like Dukat and Gark because we see more evolution in them than 3 of the main cast members by far.

Other than that and maybe the first two seasons, it's probably tied for number one out of all the series with TNG.
>>
>>86670083
idk why people rate captains. All of them had distinct personalties and motives on their mission.
>Kirk was charismatic and confident
>Picard was honorable and loyal
>Sisko was independent and strong
>Janeway would do anything to save her crew and loved them
>Archer was aggressive and determined to complete his mission

All of them are equally great. I've never enjoyed one series more than another
>>
>>86668875
I liked what I've seen so far. That first episode ended pretty fucked up like with the alien screaming "don't leave meeeee" as they left it on that planet forever. How old exactly in holo technology\holodecks?
I remember that Riker in Encounter at Farpoint was amazed by a holodeck and it felt like it was a fancy new tech he saw for the first time in his life.
And then you have Janeway who mentions how she used to run that kids program about Flutter and the tree guy when she was a little girl.

Bashir did have some minor character growth in regards to his relationship with other characters improving as he learned to stop putting his foot in his mouth all the time and thinking before he spoke, particularly with O'Brien (reminder that Miles didn't even start to like Julian until 2x13 - Armageddon Game), and to a lesser extent with Major Bajor too. I didn't really care for the mutant stuff and that seemed to kill it, it would have been better if he got to keep all that buildup going instead of throwing it away to make him Data 2.

The holodeck first shows up in The Animated Series, so Janeway definitely could have used it as a kid, holodecks were pretty shitty early on though, the characters it created had limited interactive capability and games for kids were probably an easy thing they could manage (Tasha explains this to the ooga boogas in TNG too)

One reason the intro music sounds different is because UPN increased the playback speed of season 2 by 5%, season 3 by 10%, and season 4 by nearly 15%, all in order to put more ridiculous, hawking commercials into the hour, as if the show wasn't already rendered hard to watch by the excessive number of ads they squeezed into season 1. Sure, they added a few additional augments to the music to make it sound like it was redone, but it really wasn't, and anyone with a decent ear for music should be able to redily recognize that..

Next time you're done with DS9, watch Battlestar Galactica afterwards, it'll put you in the right mood. Or after Voyager if you want to see why Ronald D. Moore made it in the first place (he was disgusted by the Voyager writers and how badly they fucked up the premise of the show).

Why does Ira hate Dukat so much? Oh no you wrote a sympathetic villain. You know who else did that? Milton.

Nobody is 100% good or 100% evil. Instead of being mad people liked your bad guy and writing him to be a moustache twirling demon, actually celebrate the fact that you made a good character people can sympathise and relate to regardless of what you want his alignment to be.

It just makes me mad that people think you always have to hate the 'bad guy'.

While I agree, the key is the lowest common denominator. The average audience can't comprehend the nuance of grey morality (and think Milton is a brand of beer), DS9 already scraped the edges often enough with not showing someone as outright evil, and got low normie ratings. The general public needs to see things in a total us vs. them/good vs. evil setting, otherwise they start doubting themselves, can't handle self-reflection and get frustrated, so that they throw the remote into the TV.
>>
>>86699385
>>86699695
The problem is they casted too good an actor for him. If they wanted him to be outright disliked, they would have kept the same character storyline and had a worse actor in there so as not to capture us with charisma.
>>
>>86699762
This is why normies prefer Star Wars over Star Trek, because Star Trek is literally too intelligent for them.
Everything is black and white in Star Wars while good and evil come in shades of gray in Star Trek.

Star Trek is also sci-fi where as Star Wars is space opera and the rules of the universe are more mystical and forgiving.

Compare that to something that has a grounding in science like Trek or something that has no grounding or rules at all like Twin Peaks.

But using science isn't what makes something hard or soft scifi, it's the focus on either science/technology or humanities, that definies it (space opera of course doesn't really fit in there). Trek has always been much more about (and was at it's best) when it explored the human condition or societies, that makes it fairly soft.
>>
The technological side of star trek isn't what scares away normies, ignore the homosexual.

It's the thinking that disturbs normies. In Star Trek, there is never one bounded plot and story that you have to pay attention to. There is not always a fixed evil that is wholly evil that you are to direct your ire towards.

Star Wars is a dramatic story, filled with a very distinct set of characters that you root for throughout. They are established and you build a very strong trust in them and what happens to them throughout against an almost seemingly invincible foe. But that is it. You root for these characters and the uphill battle they face, but you aren't exposed to anything else.

You aren't meant to think. You aren't meant to really grasp what's going on any further than "There's a big evil empire that is fighting a small rebel alliance, you should root for the underdogs". There's a very generic romance subplot. There's a very generic "twist" that's introduced. And there's a very generic essence of "redemption" and "love overcoming hate". But that's it.

Star Trek is grayer. You're forced to think about both sides in any equation. You're forced to get philosophical and ethical, to think and decipher, to feel and empathize.

Even the biggest villains, the Borg and the Dominion, have some capacity to them that you can observe to be "good". You have episodes that introduce hesitations for just outright hating them, because of something like the possibility of individuality (Hue) or deviating from a rigged system (The Jem'Hadar and the Vorta dynamic).

Star Trek is far more preachy. And far, far deeper and more complex than Star Wars in terms of characters and story.

And then there's Voyager and the TNG movies.

Star Wars captures the essence of the soul where as Trek captures the essence of the mind. I've always distinguished hard vs soft sci-fi to represent assurance in the evidence vs belief in something greater than yourself. Things where reason governs to me are hard sci-fi. Things where faith and magical bullshit powers that let you shoot lightning from your hands and shit governs the universe as soft sci-fi.

I'm not saying my way of thinking is right, it's just interesting to hear other people's opinions on the distinction.

Star Trek is sci-fi because their universe works on the basis of natural laws aka science and the stories feature a focus on explaining the phenomenons encountered and technology used. It's also set in our universe as if it were real historical events.

Star Wars is fantasy set in space. There is no detail or cohesion given to the technology or natural laws of the universe. There is a form of explainable magic called force that people can use if they meditate or something. Everything is larger than life, with individuals who are so powerful that they slice mid-flight gun shots, can mentally alter the trajectory of their ship's lasers or phantom choke someone just because they are so powerful and special. It's complete fantasy and that's okay, but it's not sci-fi.

You could go on, but ultimately the amount of seemingly magic elements are few in comparison to the technical nature of the series. Additionally, the difference between Star Trek and Star Wars in this would be that Star Trek would explore scientific possibilities for these events.

>>86702794
Obviously the technology isn't real, but they are given a pseudo logical basis for how they work. Energy discharges and rearranging molecules are fantasy for our technology, but not unheard of general scientific concepts.

First Contact's theme is also excellent. Me, personally, I really like what he did with Star Trek V the most, doing it pretty routine with the opening riff and his main theme but following it with a great little piece he used for the mountain climbing scene.

wat

DS9 is a great show with a ton of great science fiction scripts. It also expands on the history of Star Trek and it's relationship with major races and new aliens.

I do agree with the romantic subplots being a little too much but it's a given when a show runs this long and TNG suffered from it as well albeit on a smaller scale.

>Is Time's Orphan the worst episode in DS9?

Playing God will always be the the most bafflingly terrible episode, for me, possibly in all of Star Trek and that includes Threshold and The Quality of Life.

>find a "proto-universe"
>turns out it's expanding and could destroy our universe

>everyone else: i too subscribe to the destructive altruism philosophy. fuck off dax.

Not to mention it had the dullest a-plot of most any show that wasn't meant to be a comedy on DS9 with some shitty unknown bad actor playing the woe is me trill initiate.

the only good thing about the episode is this shot of dax in her quarters

t. People who never watched the show.

You are obviously one of the idiotic racists who think that black actors have to be front and center of every movie or tv show or they're not "getting their chance".

Libtards and their pet niggers. So over-protective of them it's way past cringe worthy... it's absolutely sickening. Are you not the most racist people on the planet... like... EVER?
