I realized the other day that Alfred states the actual arcs for all three characters to Bruce at the beginning. They sound like they could all apply to Bruce, but each quality he names - fever, rage, and powerlessness - apply individually to Clark, Bruce, and Lex, respectively.
I had trouble linking fever to guilt, but when I searched for "guilt as fever," this is one of the returns I got:
"In the affliction of these terrible dreams
That shake us nightly. Better be with the dead,
Whom we, to gain our peace, have sent to peace,
Than on the torture of the mind to lie
In restless ecstasy. Duncan is in his grave.
After life’s fitful fever he sleeps well."
-Shakespeare's Macbeth
Pic related. Zod and the dead of Metropolis are basically Clark's "Duncan," most especially Zod, as he's the only man he's ever had to kill.
Only cultural marxists dislike this film.
