But this, this fucking crosses the line.

The biggest problem is how inconsistent igniting the sword became. In the beginning, Beric needed to draw blood from his hand to light his sword on fire. In this episode, he first needed to strike it against his glove like a match to light it, but then can just activate the flames like it's a lightsaber. This season has made it clear the writers don't care about the little things that make the GoT universe and are only interested in wrapping up the main plot at warp speed.

Yes. Believe it or not, soldiers throughout history have done shit like that in similar circumstances (stuck in a stalemate situation in close distance to the enemy). There are ancient pots with taunts on them that Greek soldiers would throw over city walls. There are lots of stories of people in WWI shouting insults and throwing stones back and forth between trenches. If you're in a tense situation like that without being able to do anything, you find a way to blow off the steam.

A similar question was asked at a blizzcon a few years ago about diablo 3.
In diablo 3 one of the characters don't believe in skeletons (she just helped the player fight off a horde of zombies). obviously this was a flaw in writing, but the gamedesigner had an explanation for this flaw (even though it was an unintentional flaw).


The explanation that was given for the character not believe in skeletons was that she hadn't seen them before. Zombies exist in this world, like bear or cats, they are just a part of her world. Maybe fireswords are just a part of this world much in the way that cellphones are a part of ours.
Magic is something unexplained that i don't understand or have never seen before. I have never seen whitewalkers, but i have seen fireswords since before i remember.
