Seriously explain this to me. I liked occult and cult but on top of not being scary, there's nothing fundamentally exceptional about the filmmaking in any of his movies. It was fun to see him do sadako vs kayako though.

For some reason Noroi always stuck with me as the most memorable even though looking back it had some really cheesy and laughable moments. But I think that the cheesey scenes kind of disarm you before they drop a really fucking scary scene without warning.

Also Occult is worth a watch if you can somehow tell your brain to ignore the special effects budget, the main character is fantastic and the premise is very neat I think, the last 10 minutes were laughably bad because of the budget though. It's free to watch on youtube:
