The dark tower is not very mainstream nor normie-friendly. Which means their main audience were basically hardcore fans that would start screeching for the stupidest little change, let alone the entire story

Multiple things.

Forced diversity, blackwashing a canonically white blue-eyed cowboy character who was supposed to look like a young Clint Eastwood. They didn't think people would care (just like always) but they did.

On top of that it was so poorly written and such a fucking mess that even if Roland had been perfectly cast it would have still been a disaster.

They have not learned their lesson yet by the way, they are still trying to launch a Dark Tower Cinematic Universe and tv series with blackwashed Roland.

They cast Idris Elba.

Seemed to try and make it like some kind of Hollywood action movie when the books were absolutely nothing like that.

I would have seen it but didn't bc they made Roland a nigger.

Bad production, bad script and vastly edited down. The first half hour was laughably rushed.

Great lighting though, and Idris Elba was occasionally pretty cool. That's about it for the good things though.
