Was he useful?
What exactly did he do? No, literally.
what the fuck did he even do
LOCAL BOY
GEORGE MILLS
JUST 17
HERO AT DUNKIRK
was it autism?
why didn't they just kick him off the boat and tell him to fuck off back to the shore?

>See weird looking dorky kid
>Assume Nolan will try to subvert the old cliche of having the ugly dork be useless
>he dies without doing hardly anything
>handsome Chad does all the heroics
I was rused
>I'll be useful
>*dies*
he took up space on the boat that rescued soldiers could have occupied.
i guess you could say that he defused the Shivering Soldier's mania by serving as an expendable target. it would have been a lot worse if Shivering Soldier took out Mr Dawson or his son.
>He's dun kirked his head!
bravo nolan

The "stupid" way he dies is the point of that whole scene and the character of George.
Nolan used it to show the juxtaposition of a senseless and pointless death of the boy with the senseless and pointless deaths of the soldiers on the other side. To show what stoicism is with the Rylance's son saying to the shellshocked soldier that the boy is alright. To show that not all "war heroes" are the usual true heroes we all imagine them to be.

I felt sorry for him, he died a hero, yes. He was there because he wanted to help others and feel useful.

You underestimate the value of a teaboy

"I hope your faggot friend died screaming like those Jerries I killed back there"
Is this why Raimi was created as 'story by' in the credits?
