Whats the context? If its just a dramatic scene of a girl needing pills the effect seems too much. It draws attention to itself and you are taken out of the movie. If this was something like inception that plays with the perception of reality than it would be more fitting and not as jarring.

It's not meant to be funny. It's completely earnest.

Segal demanded it be edited this way because he wants to highlight how much of a "badass" kick out of the window that was.

Segal is the Tommy Wiseau of action films.

Right, and like I said if it was something like inception it would feel better at place.

But if you are watching whats supposed to be a dramatic scene about a little girl needing to get medication for her father and the only thing you are thinking about is ""wow that was a cool shot!" then its doing the opposite of what editing should be doing, which is to immersion in the film.

The guy is absolutely right though, i'm impressed by the shot but without any context it completely overshadows the drama the girl is going through.

And what is autistic about working on understanding the medium? To make a fair assessment of a movie or if you are ever going to do anything visually or story related you have to look for what works, what doesn't and why it is so. I enjoy stuff for it's own sake, even when it's not of a high quality, but enjoying something for what it is plus for what you know it does so right is very satisfying.
