>>
>the millennial meme
when will blaming people half their age finally end
>>
>>86561124
A lot of this is more due to the fact that studios had no interest in maintaining or screening silent films, regardless of what people wanted.

When television really hit in the 50s though, the demand for them to open up their vaults did increase significantly.

>>
>>86560909
I think the problem is that people have a tendency to consider anything older than a certain age "classic" and therefore automatically better than anything that came after it. /v/ is the same way with video games.

There are no doubt great movies from the early 20th century but the truth is that, just like today, the vast majority of the movies made then were shit.
>>
Watched stranger on a train last night for the first time. I was in awe. did actors back then usually put more effort in to their script then they do back then?
>>
>>86562587
To be honest those are all grossly overrated films. The one thing they have in common is that what it took to produce them, such as the elaborate practical effects and the building of the huge sets (any one of those films would cost well over a billion dollars to make if they were produced using the exact same methods today) are undoubtedly impressive and awe-inspiring. But as far as shit like dialog, the acting itself, the writing, etc. none of them are particularly good movies. People are just tragically nostalgic for them, and the era in which they were made.

Why should we? Most of the "classic" films reeks of the casual racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia that no longer is accepted by modern standards. That's like asking us to value the contributions of the Middle Ages when that period was nothing but religious fanaticism, anti-intellectualism, anti-science, and disease, war, famine, witch burnings, and slavery until the Renaissance saved humanity from those evils.

The language of Cinema is constantly evolving. The vocabulary of shots, concepts, ideas, and notions available to the modern filmmaker are deeper and wider than any time in the past. Classics can be entertaining in learning the evolution of that vocabulary, but it is sophomoric and puerile to think they are better than modern films. Even cash-grab garbage like the Transformers series is better than the "classics" due to the fact that it is built with a more intelligent and complex set of tools. Millennials can sense this. They have an inherent sense of authenticity and this makes them the most intelligent consumer generation to have ever lived. Their approval through patronage is the highest stamp of quality.

The major cultural divide is the degree of digital nativism. The older cohort, like the younger, was always good with tech, but at the same time has real living memory of what the world was like before the internet and modern phones were pervasive in private life, which only really got traction in the late 90s. Computers were still mostly playthings for rich nerds and the things that you use at work as late as the mid-90s.

Obviously. Netflix only has like three movies from before 1970. It also seems like a lot of people just don't watch movies anyway. They'll see new stuff in theaters but any home viewing is strictly tv series.

That's Gen Z. Millennials grew up with vhs tapes.
>>
>>86570901
But I'm 21 and used Vhs tapes when I was 5-10. The last vhs tape was "A history of violence" in 2006.

1980-1995 is Millennials so you're bitching about like one year of Millennials. You can't have "1980-1994 old Millennials" or "1995 Young millennials", that's 14 years vs 1 year.

Probably has to do with statistics of young people having kids

Condoms and education works surprisingly enough

I remember showing my brother Predator, Aliens and Terminator 2. He's 10 years younger than me and it blew his bloody socks off

>As millennials march steadily toward middle age and obsolescence
Thanks guys. Apparently I'm 22 and I'm already on my way to being middle aged and obsolete. Meanwhile the 21 year old next door is the future.

Also apparently we're totally different "generations" from one another even though we both went to school in similar circles of friends and grew up on the exact same movies, music, games, and TV shows.

It's actually pretty funny that normalfag and newfag are more "taboo" nowadays because of all the shitty LGBBQ garbage on social media.
>>
>>86573379
I just prefer normie because it rolls off the tongue better than normalfag. In general, big supporter of the -fag suffix

Now you understand how culturally poisonous youth culture is. It's the reason why the gay subculture has the notion of "gay death" - taking place anywhere from 18 up to 25 or so - and would rather be dead than old. Because there is nothing else to the human experience than being sexy.

If an article mentions the word "millenials" it's just a clickbait article meant to inflame millenials. Guess who reads online articles? Fucking millenials. It's a dumb marketing gimmick used by shitty news outlets and the fact that this thread exists is a testament to how fucking stupid this generation is when it comes to logical reasoning.
>>
>>86569901
There's literally nothing wrong with the word hella, mr normie.

>>86570408
>you're like an OG meme god
Holy shit, that's brilliant.

>millenials aren't eating cereal because it's too much work
Orr all cereal is sugary fucking garbage for the most part
>>
>>86560909
>Reminder Normies and casual viewers don't watch the classics
you're wrong. I know plenty of normalfags who have seen BvS and the Star Wars prequels

>>86560945
using the word shibboleth is the biggest shibboleth for being a cancerous newfag

False.

Just saw The Birds with my grandmother, fucking tremendous
>>

This is true. I was born in 1985, never have had a Facebook page, don't currently have a smartphone, no twitter account, etc. I can't stand the whole 'nose in their phone' culture that is becoming increasingly prevalent. It's shortening attention spans and generally making people a lot less interesting, not to mention driving people into binary identity politics.

Absolutely.

He is referring to how often they quip in modern movies, especially superhero films
>>
>>86560909
They're not as accessible, and often times plebs think they're too slow-paced when you can load up Star Wars or Marvel shit for instant gratification.

/tv/ hasn't watched the classics either.

>be me, age 22
>a few weeks ago a friend wants support for his improv show
>go for solidarity
>it's not funny
>after the show someone starts talking to me and my friend
>he's only slightly younger, maybe 19 or 20
>can't have a normal conversation
>starts mentioning things like "dank memes"
>starts talking about how pop tarts are sandwichs
>i just wanted to tell my friend his improv show was shit, like 99.98% of all improv shows
the internet created a truly degenerate culture. it is time to cut back. how do we get people to stop using social media and their phones so goddamn much?

only fig newtons call others "new fag"

Pretty sure that is the norm since the beginning of time.
