Black vs White in the Sunset Limited. The father and the kid vs the world itself in The Road. How fucking stupid you have to be to think Mccarthy is a nihilist?
Fuck, if anything the few changes the Coen brothers made make the film even more explicitly anti-nihilist than the novel.

Stop acting like faggots and actually post recommendations like OP wanted. I like those kind of movies as well. Leviathan(2014) and Eastern Promises seem to fit into description.

The Hurt Locker is pretty good. It's not accurate but there's no real "message", it's just about one insane man's journey into hell and how after spending so much time there he's incapable of feeling anything elsewhere. Pretty great ending that manages to be other happy and incredibly sad, everyone lives but even the one guy happy about his situation is just too nuts to understand how he's just committing a form of suicide.

Generation Kill is pretty good too, the marines aren't really heroic and are just trying to stay alive. It's about the most accurate representation of active duty marines I've seen, they just sit around talking about masturbating all day and barely even comprehend why they're there and don't even know what they're fighting for or why.

very highly recommend hell or high water, its really excellent

if you're in the mood for a more traditional period piece western I recommend In a Valley of Violence, its sort of a revenge movie with a surprisingly good performance from John Travolta as a corrupt marshal.

>>
>>86554427

Nightcrawler is based on a true story. While there might be a few minor differences for the sake of making it a better movie, it's not satire or a "dark mirror", it accurately portrays LA as it was before it was cleaned up.

How about this, it was rather trite, speculative statement based on an entirely cliché and erroneous idea of how women behave that reeks of sexual resentment. You really didn't make much of an argument at all, much less one worthy of "refuting".

You were the one that changed the subject?
Also, I don't see how this is a problem. If you think they're somehow "tainting" your "pure" board culture I got news for you: your board culture is shit.
>>
>>86558648
calling the boogeyman had nothing to do with the tainting of this board's culture. it was to tell you that you are so ignorant of basic biological facts and that you should lurk more until you inevitably become acquainted with them before you start posting again. everything in that schopenhauer essay is fact and if you disagree you are red=dit personified.

schopenhauer is more hopeful and uplifting than this meme leads one to believe. people that espouse this notion that he's r9k personified have only read his essay on women

No, everything in that essay is insight, and a rather narrow perspective of insight at that. There are no references or sources, no empirical data, just baseless truisms. What's funny is that you simply assume I've never been here or that I'm ignorant because I disagree. I've probably been here longer than you have, honestly. I bought the /r9k/ meme unironically like every one of /pol/'s vassals have, but at a certain point it becomes less an acknowledgement of the "failure" of women and more a yearning for them to prove that they fail. I have no doubt that women are physically weaker than men. I have no doubt that they're more prone to fear because of this. But rather than being impartial or dispassionate about these facts, you take every opportunity to relish in them. I'm not gonna speculate as to why this is the case, but I will say that you're carrying some serious baggage. At a certain point, you'll realize it's only weighing you down.

Yeah-you're forgetting that the actual last line is-"and then I woke up". The whole point is that Jones has been relying on outdated idealism for years, he's ultimately completely impotent. There's no place in this world for romanticism.

Chigurh is itonically, the only one to adopt a consistent principle or code, although what that specifically is isn't always clear. But even he is laid low by a granny asleep at the wheel. If you think No Country was at all hopeful you're profoundly mistaken.

if infantry then yes.

the only women who could handle infantry would need to be in gender based units, at least 5ft9 and been roiding for at least 2yrs.

Why don't women do good in motorcycle racing? It does not require strength.

Why Don't they compete with men's E sports teams?

I disagree for a few reasons.

>you're forgetting that the actual last line is-"and then I woke up".
I think you're taking it out of context:
>And in the dream I knew that he was going on ahead and he was fixing to make a fire somewhere out there in all that dark and all that cold. And I knew that whenever I got there, he’d be there. And then I woke up.
You seem to imply that the dream is a fantasy that gets shattered when he wakes up. This doesn't make sense because at the end of the dream, despite knowing his father is waiting for him, he's still alone in the darkness, which is the same way he has felt about his life through the entire movie. It makes more sense for the dream not to be a fantasy but a metaphor of his reallity, and therefore his hope to be real.

>There's no place in this world for romanticism.
>If you think No Country was at all hopeful you're profoundly mistaken.
But by the end he's still a good man who loves his wife. That is both romantic and hopeful in itself.

The movie is pretty much this:
>Sheriff feels the world has changed for worse.
>Has a crisis of faith because of it.
>His uncle tells him that what he has to deal with is nothing new.
>Sheriff realizes the world has always been dark and cold and he's now too old to do something about it.
>He accepts his situation and finds peace in his marriage and in the idea of meeting his father again in the after life.

Even the title itself is a reference to a poem by Yeats about an old man sailing to a spiritual city beyond the limits of the material world.

It's kind of a hopeful movie in its own way.
