I actually read an article by the effects team back in S3 when Beric fought the Hound. There's 2 swords. When fighting it's a stick with a flaming rag. When just showing it off, It's a sword that is literally bleeding lighter fluid or something and be only,needs to switch the sword on.

I haven't read the books but from what I understand Thoros, who was famous for it, used to use Wildfire to do so (which is green, at least in the show, so that can't be it). Blacksmiths didn't like Thoros very much because it made his swords brittle and thought he was desecrating their hard work. In the show though, when Beric fights the hound, he cuts his hand and the blood lights that shit up. Are they just cutting their hands over and over here?
