>one of the greatest director ever.
well, that's a hell of a statement, what make him so good?

silence.

everything you can say about one of the greatest it's: silence...?
sad!
>>86499095
why? is silence not enough for you? The use of silence is essential to filmmaking. Tsai Ming-Liang has master it.

but that's it? what make him one of the greatest director ever is the correct use of silence?

Silence is the starting point. Through silence takes place the description of people and places. The spectator becomes protagonist and become able to connect with the characters on a emotional level. Silence makes this possible. Have you ever watched some of his films? I recommend you to start with "The Hole"

there you go, something more elaborated. I haven't, but I want to start with qing shao nian nuo zha
I have endured his Wayward Cloud
Normally I don't watch anything related to him but I was watching it with a friend so it's bearable.
It's an ok depiction about poor man's life and depicted how Japanese AV is made
Would not watch it twice or watch anything that bears his name

>qing shao nian nuo zha
also a good start.
I have downloaded Goodbye, Dragon Inn recently, is it a good start to his filmography?
>>86500155
Probably.
>>86500155
I'm not sure. If you are used to watch films with minimalist dialogue, long silence scenes, then go for it.

I don't think his earlier works which were closer to the mainstream form of cinema is necessarily to like him. It would help introducing his development but not a must.
His later works on the other hand had huge art fund and government subsidy money so its visually and audioly pleasing. It can be enjoyed as an experimental work if you don't have to pay for it yourself.
