Much like Alien and Aliens, they're almost two completely different movies. The first fixated on horror elements and the second strictly action.
It's hard to say because I love the 2nd one regardless because I grew up watching it, but the first one is actually the better film.

T2 is a little cheesy at times, but is otherwise a perfect movie.

T1 has great casting, great soundtrack, great plot, but the ending just really knocks it down a peg. I don't care how much of a pleb it makes me, but it really kills the movie when the T-800 emerges from the flames as an exoskeleton and it turns into Jason and the Argonauts.

They're both good in different ways. Literally the same as asking Alien or Aliens.

1 is straight up a better movie in every regard. The time travel makes sense, the villain is believable, the grubby lead hero really sells the post-apocalypse theme.

2 is just too flawed. The awful shit kid acting, dumb fanservice shit like the sunglasses, a retcon of time travel to produce something utterly nonsensical if you think about it for a second, it's far too corny and only salvaged by the OTT budget. It's still a great popcorn flick, but it's absolutely a worse movie than 1.
